Department of Bioengineering

Stanford Bioengineering is a dynamic and rapidly growing department within the School of Engineering and School of Medicine. For more than a decade, Stanford Bioengineering has sought to advance bioengineering as a fundamental engineering discipline grounded in basic sciences, powered by a unique set of engineering concepts and principles that is capable of realizing many diverse applications. The Department of Bioengineering is seeking a full-time Administrative Services Administrator to join the Jewett Lab in a position with the Army Center for Synthetic Biology, a joint program between Stanford and MIT involving a dozen additional U.S. universities.The successful candidate will coordinate multidisciplinary research efforts between Stanford University, MIT, other U.S. university collaborators, and U.S. Army researchers. Responsibilities will include managing the day-to-day operations and administration for the Army Center for Synthetic Biology program; coordinating research and interactions with the funding agency (U.S. Army, Army Science and Technology Enterprise); the public presentation of material; communication with sponsors and research partners; writing and managing federal grants; and performing other tasks and operational functions as assigned.

The center's research will apply synthetic biology to design advanced materials and engineer environmental microbial communities. This involves the integration of materials science, computational modeling, and biomanufacturing to create new biomaterials with precise control over their functional properties. The center will also identify microbial consortia amenable to carry synthetic functions, rendering them receptive to engineering, designing genetic functions, and simulating environments to test engineered microbes.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.
  • Represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.
  • May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.

Education & Experience (Required):

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

Pay Range:

The expected pay range for this position is $64,480 to $120,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
