Position Overview

As part of the New Domains Global Technology team, the Co-Op will be responsible for a data integration project related to our Pilot Caster and downstream processes. The Pilot Line comprises of various segments (molten metal: composition, filtration, degassing, grain refiner, caster, furnace, quench, shear, etc.). Cast slabs from pilot line will be analyzed in our Molten Metal Processing Center in Spokane, WA followed by rolling process and finished by heat treatment at the Novelis Research and Technology Center in Kennesaw, GA. Data produced in each step needs to be captured which are in various formats to build a slab thru process footprint. Data integration for these various processes are essential to relate materials final performance towards technology validation.

The co-op will be collecting and analyzing these data to a establish database for Pilot Line processes by collaborating with Spokane and Kennesaw team.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities
  • Create and analyze data structure to enable next generation aluminum processing technology
  • Work collaboratively with engineers/scientists to meet specific product and process requirements
  • Support ongoing product development activities, including being a proactive member of the team assisting with development trials
  • Document results and recommendations in technical reports
  • Present results to stakeholders within the organization
Qualifications
  • Completed Bachelors or final year student in a related engineering field
  • Data analysis and basic programming knowledge (e.g.: C, C#, Python or similar)
  • Capable to thrive in a team environment, communicates well, and engage and influences cross-functional teams within the R&D organization
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.
Preferred Experience
  • Specific experience related to aluminum sheet product processing
  • Understanding of mechanical design including pneumatic/hydraulic systems and heat transfer
  • CAD (Inventor, Solidworks, etc.) experience and proficiency
