The Department of Music at the University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Music Theorist at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2024. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Music Theory, awarded by August 15, 2024.

We seek candidates with a commitment to and enthusiasm for teaching major and non-major students in an undergraduate liberal arts context. The Department of Music is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With approximately 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students "to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society."

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the department and its programs, please see http://music.richmond.edu.

Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.richmond.edu. Applicants are asked to submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a 1-3 page teaching statement, and a 1-3 page research statement. The teaching statement should articulate the candidate's teaching philosophy, interests, and future professional development goals, as well as outline the candidate's commitment to inclusive pedagogies and document previous success in working with diverse populations of students. The research statement should include a description of research completed or in progress and outline future plans for research at an undergraduate institution. Candidates for this position may be asked to provide copies of academic transcripts at a later time. Candidates may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for three references.

Review of applications will begin October 15, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.
