Assistant Professor of Social Work in Family Life and Human Development

The Beverley Taylor Sorenson College of Education and Human Development is seeking a dynamic, highly qualified educator who can teach undergraduate social work classes in the Family Life and Human Development department. Potential opportunity exists for this position to include future work in developing a Masters in Social Work program and to teach at the graduate level. This is a full-time, 9-month faculty position with excellent benefits and can be filled as either tenure or non-tenure track dependent upon qualifications. Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach 4-5 undergraduate courses within Social Work, Human Development, Family Studies, and/or Family Services. The primary focus of this position is teaching and mentoring students. Specific courses to be taught depend on qualifications and expertise and may include:
    1. Introduction to Social Work & Family Services
    2. Practice Methods in Behavioral Health
    3. Case Management in Behavioral Health
    4. Child, Family, and Adult Advocacy in Behavioral Health
    5. Fostering Family, School, and Community Partnerships
    6. Values and Ethics in Family Services
    7. Practicum Supervision
    8. School Counseling
    9. Future MSW graduate courses
  2. Professional commitment, excellent teaching, scholarly activity, service to the department, college, and university are expected and required for rank advancement and/or tenure considerations.
  3. Other assignments as determined by the department chair and dean.


Education and Experience Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:
  1. Master's degree in Social Work.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of expertise and practical work experience in a clinical setting.
  3. Independent licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Preferred Education and Experience:
  1. A doctoral degree in Social Work. Applicants with a doctoral degree may be considered for a tenure-track position.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of expertise and practical work experience in a clinical setting.
  3. Evidence of successful university teaching experience in Social Work, Human Services, or a closely related field.
  4. Interest and ability in utilizing and facilitating educational technologies in teaching.
  5. Familiarity with online delivery systems.
  6. Demonstrated awareness and experience with issues of educational equity and pedagogical inclusion.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and expertise. In accordance with Utah State Code 53A-3-410, appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful passing of a background check.
