We are seeking an experienced scientist with significant automation and integration experience. The successful candidate will help build, shape and lead a team of scientist to improve and deliver on our High Throughput Production & Screening (HTPS) platform capabilities. You will play a significant role in designing future modifications to integrated robotic and liquid handling systems; ensuring world class precision and execution of high throughput expression & purification of antibody therapeutics on a microgram-to-milligram scale and be an advocate for utilizing various automation platforms. Furthermore you will manage and work side by side with the team. The selected individual will be a well-organized and a highly productive scientist that can design and execute experiments efficiently, as well as analyze, interpret, and present data to multidisciplinary project teams.

BUSINESS AREA

Biologics Engineering (BE) is large global organization with teams in Cambridge, UK and Gaithersburg MD responsible for the discovery and optimization of next generation biologics to create biological drug candidates for all key therapeutic areas such as oncology, respiratory and inflammation, cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases. Our Waltham team is a new team we are building from the ground up to support both our global responsibilities as well as building an innovation center where we can push the boundaries of sciences and creativity. We're constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for the development of in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to address unmet medical needs.

What you'll do

  • Execute the set-up and integration of a complex multimillion dollar automation suite designed for high throughput DNA clone, transfection, expression, and purification on multiple scales.
  • Collaborate and work with a diverse group of scientists across all therapeutic areas to ensure timely progress in research projects.
  • Biochemical, biophysical and functional profiling of antibodies and recombinant antibody fragments.
  • Ability to solve process development problems and implement improved procedures.
  • Be a dynamic leader able to handle pressure while remaining confident.

Essential for the role
  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other relevant scientific field with 5+ years of experience in antibody engineering and/or bispecific design.
  • OR MS Degree and 8+ years of experience in antibody engineering and/or bispecific design.
  • OR BS Degree and 10+ years of experience in antibody engineering
  • Line management and or laboratory management
  • Molecular and cell biology techniques, including; cloning, transfection and transduction methods.
  • Expression, purification and biochemical/biophysical characterization of various antibody formats.
  • Optimizing/troubleshooting automation techniques (e.g. Hamilton liquid handler) with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Sample tracking and laboratory logistics software.
  • Ability to work independently, effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion to meet project deadlines.
  • Track record of scientific innovation as evidenced by scientific publications, patents, and oral presentations at conferences.

Desirable for the role
  • Antibody discovery using several cloning and purification technologies.
  • Imaging/ multicolor flow cytometry-based instruments and data analysis programs.
  • Tissue culture techniques and functional cell-based assay development.
  • Effective presentation of complex scientific data to cross-functional and senior management.
