We call our model of transformational education the Alvernia Advantage, and we believe this style of education transforms students into ethical leaders with moral courage. Alvernia University ranks in the top 100 among 2021 Best Regional Universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report, and we are recognized as a College of Distinction for our commitment to engaged experiential education. Criminal Justice - Department Chair Located within the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, and one of the oldest programs at the university, the Criminal Justice Department provides students with a liberal arts education whose focus is the complex relations among crime, law, and society.  Traditional undergraduates and adult online students are prepared for a broad array of careers through a strong grounding in theory coupled with experiential opportunities that reinforce practical, and professional skills.  The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a strong record of effective organization and administration skills with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member. The college particularly welcomes candidates with knowledge, skills, and abilities that include: Commitment to mission, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Interest in developing student-centered programming and experiential opportunities. Desire to apply expertise in promoting civic engagement with the College's community partners. Desire to innovate for the growth and development of the department.  Successful candidates will hold a Doctorate in Criminal Justice or a related social science field, and demonstrate a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related social science field. • Evidence of increasing academic administrative experience. • An agenda of scholarship with the potential for peer-reviewed publications and presentations relevant to the field of criminal justice. • At least two years of teaching experience in the field of criminal justice or a related social science field. • The ability to maintain and establish relationships with criminal justice agencies at multiple levels.  Additional Information: This is a full-time, 12-month position. All Alvenria University employees promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University as demonstrated by the University's Ideal Characteristics.How to Apply:Candidates should apply on the Alvenria website with their current curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy statement, official transcripts, and three letters of recommendation.
