Job Summary
The Automotive Mechanic II role diagnoses and repairs various systems of cars, pickup trucks, trailers, and golf carts. Manage all aspects of the automotive shop's operations as they arise. The main responsibilities of this role are the preventive maintenance and repair of the university's fleet and small-engine powered equipment. This position works with moderate independence using a variety of general maintenance, electrical, and HVAC skills to perform assigned tasks.
Responsibilities
Significant duties and responsibilities include: Diagnose and repair automobile systems such as brake systems, starting and charging systems, powertrain, steering and suspension, heating and air conditioning, electrical, hose & belts, and minor body repairs with respect to work request orders.; Perform repairs to systems on golf carts, GEM cars, lawn mowers, trailers, and various non-highway vehicles.; Create and implement ideas and strategies for managing the efficiency of day-to-day shop operations.; Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and integrity of the automotive shop.; Maintain tools and tool storage.; Order and return parts as needed from vendors.; Ensure shop equipment is safe and operational.; Deliver and retrieve automobiles from outside shops as needed.; Order necessary supplies to perform shop functions.; Performs general preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of vehicle AC systems and equipment.; Maintains related records on all fleet vehicles.; Communicates with supervisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.; Keeps inventory control of shop tools/equipment to include up to date calibrations and repairs or replacements as needed. Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.; Road tests vehicles.; Other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required qualifications include: High school diploma or GED.; 5+ years of skilled work experience in automotive maintenance or any equivalent combination of training and experience.; A valid Driver's License is required.
Proposed Salary
The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $43,000- $46,000 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Possession of multiple ASE certifications preferred.; Proper use of automotive tools and equipment.
