Camera and Depth Characterization Manager Responsibilities:

  • Lead camera and depth characterization and design validation across Reality Labs' product lines
  • Define KPIs for cameras and depth sensors across multiple technologies and usage cases
  • Define correlations between VR and AR usage cases and camera and depth technical performance metrics.
  • Define experimental methodologies for characterizing cameras and depth systems
  • work with and optimize machine learning data processing pipelines to deliver robust performance analyses.
  • Manage software development for data collection and analysis
  • Implement robust statistical data processing to infer system performance
  • Define and manage the design of targets and scenes, as well as of automated rigs to methodically measure system performance across ranges, objects and operating conditions
  • Attain a good understanding of classical and ML data processing pipelines as well as how they influence system performance.
  • Reconcile differences between numerical and behavioral models versus experimental data, to enable insights on system behavior or anomalies.
  • Manage and mentor characterization and design validation teams across Meta sites
  • create development plans and growth opportunities for engineers
  • enable and encourage cross-pollination within the team and with external teams in areas of algorithms, software, data analysis and system characterization.
  • Deliver both technical and executive level presentations on test methodologies and experimental results to cross-functional teams.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Understanding of photometry and of noise sources in imaging systems
  • More than 2 years of people management experience
  • Understanding of free-space optics and experience setting up optical systems for camera characterization
  • 4+ years of camera or depth system characterization
  • Understanding of software for data capture and lab automation, such as LabView.
  • Graduate degree in Optics, Physics, Image Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline with 7+ years of working experience
  • Understanding of data processing techniques and signal statistics with hands-on knowledge of data analysis software such as Matlab or Python
  • Leadership and interpersonal communication skills, and experience working across multiple disciplines, driving best engineering practices, and mentoring team members
  • In-depth knowledge of camera and/or depth systems working principles
  • Basic understanding of machine learning pipelines


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Optics or related field
  • Work with modern ISPs
  • Characterization of embedded cameras, such as cellphone cameras
  • Characterization of stereo depth systems, or of time-of-flight systems, such as lidars
  • A good understanding of ML training and evaluation methodologies
  • Experience working in complex, interdisciplinary organizations
  • In-depth understanding of contemporary camera & depth signal processing pipeline in consumer electronics products
  • Experience with joint hardware-software development and associated rapid prototyping
  • Dedication to advance the camera & depth related user experience in consumer products
