Description JOB SUMMARY

The MBKU Campus Safety & Security Department is dedicated to ensuring the University community's right to a safe environment through exemplary and professional service. Officers are responsible for protecting MBKU buildings, grounds, assets, employees, students and visitors against criminal activity, accidents, fires and natural disasters. This may be accomplished by patrol unit, carts and/or foot patrol of campus, walkways, parking lots, administrative and academic buildings as well as other satellite locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSI­­BILITIES
  • Provide security to premises and MBKU personnel by patrolling all buildings to ensure that the campus is safe and secure
  • Maintain high visibility while conducting patrol check(s)
  • Inspect all exterior and interior doors to ensure that they are secured and lights off after hours
  • Provide lock/unlock services for University community
  • Check in authorized vendors, visitors, and guest
  • Patrol and inspect property to protect it from theft, vandalism, or other criminal activities
  • Escort any loiterers or unauthorized visitors off campus
  • Document shift activity in daily activity report (DAR)
  • Patrol all parking lots for any violations and issue warnings or citations if necessary
  • Effectively and appropriately respond to any emergency situations
  • Monitor Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras
  • Operate access control system
  • Accept additional duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or modified by your supervisor or the Director of Campus Safety & Security
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.   • Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word
  • Successfully secure a Security Guard Card, Pepper Spray Permit, and Baton Permit issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).
  • Be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Six months of related experience and/or training

  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for periods of time
WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. The employee may be required to work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and high noise levels per OSHA guidelines. Located on a beautiful, seven-acre campus in Fullerton, California, MBKU is an independent, private, non-profit, accredited educational institution. MBKU is home to the Southern California College of Optometry, the School of PA Studies and College of Pharmacy. MBKU owns and operates three health care centers at their clinical teaching facility, Ketchum Health, providing a vision center and PA medical clinic practice in Orange County and second vision center in Los Angeles.

In 1904, Marshall B. Ketchum, MD, opened the Los Angeles School of Ophthalmology and Optometry in Los Angeles. Dr. Ketchum was a visionary entrepreneur and prominent leader in the optometric profession. He made very significant and long-standing contributions in his field of care, in California and throughout the nation.

In the early '70s the College moved to its current home in Fullerton, CA and was renamed Southern California College of Optometry. But even the pioneering Dr. Ketchum could not have envisioned his school would grow to become Marshall B. Ketchum University, an independent, private, non-profit, accredited educational institution encompassing multiple disciplines.
