Position OverviewThe Research Assistant will assist in carrying out CEBC research in a chemical engineering/chemistry laboratory. The position involves researching the literature and conducting liquid phase homogeneous catalysis reactions with chemicals, which may be hazardous, to valuable products. Additionally, the candidate will conduct instrumental, physical and chemical analyses to characterize purity and reaction performance. Regular reporting of progress on the experimental program including weekly presentation and written reports, optionally including journal articles is an expectation. This position is dependent on funding. Job Description

  • Laboratory experimentation, including adherence to all safety procedures in the laboratory and following established guidelines and procedures to analyze from experiments, under the direction of project PI. (70%)
  • Documentation/Report Writing, to include maintaining proper research records, compiling data and reporting findings. (10%)
  • Literature review. (10%)
  • Training, administration and ordering supplies. (10%)
Required Qualifications
  1. Two years enrollment in a B.S. Chemical Engineering or Chemistry program from an accredited department.
  2. Basic chemistry or engineering laboratory experience via coursework or prior employment.
  3. Good oral and written communication skills, as evident on application materials.
During the semester term of the appointment, the KU student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in catalysis and reaction engineering in a laboratory setting, including pressurized reactors and high temperature processes.
  2. Experience with material characterization methods for organic chemicals and other solids.
