Advertised Job Summary:

South Carolina Children's Advocacy Medical Response System (SCCAMRS)- Medical Director

The University of South Carolina School of Medicine (USCSOM) is seeking a board - certified child abuse pediatrician to provide programmatic oversight of the SC Children's Advocacy Medical Response System (SCCAMRS).

This statewide child abuse medical program was established in 2004 to address the shortage and training of medical providers specializing in the medical evaluation of child maltreatment and the disparity in quality and delivery of these services. Currently the state program is a network of child abuse pediatricians, primary care physicians, advanced practice providers and sexual assault/forensic nurse examiners qualified to deliver medical services for maltreatment allegations. The state program is their comprehensive resource system for clinical, educational, quality improvement, legislative advocacy and funding support. SCCAMRS was statutorily codified in 2014.

The Medical Director will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide consultative expertise to the SC Network of Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs), the state Children's Hospitals Collaborative and their individual center and hospital members.
  • Coordinate and conduct regional and statewide educational roundtables and case reviews for the medical professionals in the CACs and children's hospitals.
  • Organize and manage statewide quality assurance programs consistent with national standards, evidence-based guidelines or best practices.
  • Supervise the maintenance and update of the statewide child abuse medical database and system's website.
  • Provide state and regional trainings to state multidisciplinary investigatory agencies.
  • Represent the SCCAMRS program on statewide organizations that advocate for the betterment of the health and safety of child victims of maltreatment.
  • Collaborate with state and regional partners for the development and implementation of legislative policies.
  • Maintain her/his clinical and patient-care skills by participating in medical evaluations at the local children's advocacy center and/or children's hospital.
  • Directorship of the Prisma Health-Midlands Child Abuse Pediatrics division as well as the Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program.


Required Education and Experience:


M.D. degree, board certified or board eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Must demonstrate clinical expertise providing top quality, family-centered healthcare to Pediatric patients. The prospective candidate must have a minimum of 5-year clinical experience as well as administrative proficiency and possess outstanding leadership and communication skills. The applicant will be expected to qualify for an academic faculty appointment with USCSOM as commensurate with their experience.
