JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Informaticist promotes the understanding, integration and application of healthcare information technology in support of clinician/provider objectives, the organization’s vision, strategic goals and industry best practices.  The Clinical Informaticist drives the optimal, efficient and effective use of clinical information systems and technology as it relates to patient care, patient safety, user satisfaction, clinical productivity and quality outcomes.  The Clinical Informaticist will serve as a key constituent that bridges the gap between people, processes, clinical knowledge and technology.

Below are the essential functions for the role.

  • Utilize data to drive process, workflow and behavior change as it relates to appropriate and efficient use of electronic medical records (EMR) and other clinical technology. 
  • Document specifications that will translate into the development of tools, reports, and systems that support organizational business needs.
  • Collaborate with other departments in the development and revision of initiatives and programs related to data collection, retrieval, analysis and interpretation to assist in optimizing patient outcomes, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Serve as a resource to end users for information systems and technology; effectively communicate system changes, workflow process changes, downtime procedures, etc. to all clinicians and providers.
  • Act as a key resource regarding education, support, training, policies and procedures, provide ongoing education and support for all upgrades, new releases, and enhanced functionality. 
  • Facilitate and support a robust super-user program, clinical champion(s) and clinical informatics council at assigned sites.  

 

The ideal candidate must have an understanding of clinical practice as it pertains to the integration of clinical information systems/technology and impact on end users is essential for the role. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication, verbal, written, analytical, interpersonal and organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and effectively utilize resources with fiscal responsibility in planning, implementation, and evaluation. Four or more years of experience in a clinical environment required. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field required.  Master’s degree with emphasis in informatics preferred. Licensed clinician such as nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, pharmacy technician, dietitian, respiratory therapist, etc. preferred. Informatics Nursing Certification (RN-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) certification, or other related certification preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's
  • EXPERIENCE - A minimum of 4 years’ experience required
  • Clinical experience highly preferred 
  • Epic experience highly preferred
