Location: TNR1 Dry Creek
Schedule: Monday through Friday, including holidays.
Hours: 6:00am to 2:00pm - Start and end times may vary. Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule.

Priority consideration will be provided to internal applicants first. Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.

Starting wage - $16.00/hour

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the training of the process of selection of birds at designated age based on conformation, physical attributes, and other heritable traits. This position also trains on the process of assisting in the supervising and coordinating of activities of Selection crew team members. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Training to be engaged in the of selection of birds between the ages of four and eight weeks of age, as designated based on conformation, physical attributes and family data provided by the computer and movement of birds within the complex. Training to verify line identification and bird sex. Team is expected to handle approx. 9,000 birds per week, ranging between 3 and 12lbs. (40%)
  • Assist and training to manage set-up for selection, i.e. place pens, catch wires, lights and tablets in proper position. Oversee bird handling, loading, and bird transfer is completed properly. (10%)
  • Oversee the washing and storage of selection equipment (10%)
  • Observes condition of farm structures and equipment and recommend needed maintenance and repairs. Ensures that dead birds are disposed of as instructed. Other alternative tasks may include but not limited to: coop washing, Load full/empty coops, equipment washing, assist with Lixi, sex error check, market birds, etc. (20%)
  • Training to lead in recording information according to instructions such as defects in brood mortality, and grading mortality by bird's wing band number, using the tablet system. (10%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare/Safety Requirements:
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines. Will be trained to recognize and comply with all Safety procedures.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, using two Team Members, up to 50 pounds to move items such as bird coops; tools, such as angle iron dolly, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds such as stacks of bird coops. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (i.e. concrete floor, shavings); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Simple Green, Animal Dye, Lysol, etc.
  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, extreme dusty, wet and cold environments.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: Must be able to read, write, and have simple math skills. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills regarding operation of a tablet for recording selection data.
