Job Description:


Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and many other activities.

Germanna Community College is enthusiastically seeking an innovative, student-centered, and equity-minded Coordinator of Career and Transfer Services. Reporting to the Dean of Student Development, the Coordinator of Career and Transfer Services (herein Coordinator) provides leadership, strategic planning, community engagement, and college-wide collaboration to enhance student success by delivering comprehensive transfer, Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), employment services, and Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities, including but not limited to apprenticeships, externships, internships, Federal Work-Study employment, and off-campus employment. The position is committed to fostering student development by assisting students with their transfer, career exploration, and employment needs.
The Coordinator is responsible for community outreach to create, sustain, and expand external connections with employers, including local, regional, and national businesses, organizations, and Federal, State, and Local agencies, that provide Work-Based Learning opportunities for all Germanna students, including Dual Enrollment, Independent Dual Enrollment, and Early College students. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for community outreach to create, sustain, and expand Germanna's transfer partners, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). The Coordinator is responsible for an equity advancement focus on employment and transfer opportunities for students.

The Coordinator is also responsible for the documentation, assessment, and dissemination of results from strategic planning objectives and tactics. The Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the Career & Transfer Center, which includes career and transfer advising, Work-Based Learning, and Credit for Prior Learning, and directly supervises 5 full-time, 1 part-time, and Federal Work-Study (FWS) student team members. The Coordinator also leads regular and signature programming for the Center, including Career Fairs, National HBCU Week, Transfer Fairs, Work-Based Learning Fairs, and workshops.
This position will be required to travel to all college locations and throughout our service community area. Additionally, this position will be required to attend meetings across the state and elsewhere as needed.

Special Assignments:

KSA's/Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Career Development, or a relevant field.
  • 2 or more years of experience in a higher education setting with an emphasis on academic advising, career development, counseling, and/or employment training and development.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrates commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Knowledge of student development theory.
  • Knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze, assess, and interpret data for strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong technical and computer skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Experience with or willingness to learn AI tools
