Data scientist/Computational biologist Intern

Internship Summary:

The Zoetis ZINC Data Science and Analytics (DSA) team is looking for an ambitious intern to aid algorithm and model development for disease modeling and drug discovery. The intern will implement and try to improve upon known models which have been successful in the human/mouse spaces and translate them to applications in other animal spaces. The intern will have the opportunity to bring a model from development to the hands of biologists, where new hypotheses and in silico discoveries can be made.

Internship Job Duties:

• Model and algorithm development around biological networks.
• Writing software libraries for applying algorithms to many different data sets.
• Reviewing relevant literature on graph methods in omics and biological networks.

Internship Qualifications:

• Pursuing a graduate degree in data science or computational biology.
• Has experience with applying standard machine learning methods to biological/omics data.
• Proficiency in coding in either Python, R, Julia, or C++, and ability to write readable, modular, and scalable code.
• Understanding of mathematical modeling, graph theory, and network analysis- including knowledge of modern deep learning models such as graph convolutional networks and attention-based networks
