Job Summary

The Database Analyst and Usability Specialist will support various projects and programs within IT and A&F IT offices. Works closely with Peoplesoft developers and database administrators on the migration project, provides services and reports to campus partners using SQL databases, and performs usability testing for IT Assistive Technology Center and other projects that require screen reader testing.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with Peoplesoft migration project from Windows to Linux; assesses current environment and identifies SQR programs requiring migration; modifies existing SQR programs as need to ensure migration compatibility; creates and provides documentation for developing, deploying and maintaining SQR programs on Linux.
  • Works closely with the Peoplesoft developers to identify the SQL changes needed in SQR programs; implements the changes and tests migrated SQR programs to validate functionality, performance and data integrity on the Linux platform.
  • Writes SQL/SQRs queries for campus stakeholders who use PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (SPIRE) on a regular basis.
  • Assists with IT special projects; supports databases used in A&F IT applications; creates views and sets up reports.
  • Performs screen reader usability testing or other testing for a variety of assistive technologies.
  • Proofs the media components of an online chemistry textbook (20+ chapters) for screen reader compatibility.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    • Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years of relevant experience in database administration or data analysis. Knowledge of relational databases. Understanding of SQL queries, database schema and data manipulation.
    • Knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines and familiarity with assistive technologies commonly used by individual with disabilities such as screen readers, magnification software and alternative input devices.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
    • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions.
    • Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.

    Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    Experience working with data and assistive technology used in higher education settings.

    Physical Demands/Working Conditions

    Typical Office environment.

    Work Schedule

    Monday to Friday 37.5 hours a week.
