Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (i.e., Brand & Digital) to support efforts and/or department objectives. Generally, works under limited supervision, but within established guidelines, monitoring the flow of work between own department and others in alignment with business strategies, selecting and developing effective managers and work teams, managing own organization through reliable systems and processes, and producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision-making process.

Specific Job Summary

As a member of the Global Data & Customer Insights team for Marriott Vacations Worldwide, the Director, Digital Analytics & Optimization will be responsible for leading the effort to pull together data across a variety of sources and create compelling visuals to share business insights. The Director, Digital Analytics & Optimization may also supervise analysts focused on these efforts.

Leveraging web and mobile analytics tools (including Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Content Square, Qualtrics), the Director, Digital Analytics & Optimization is expected to produce accurate insights that will drive appropriate business actions based upon solid evidence in data. We are looking for a dynamic, innovative individual with detailed oriented analytical and interpersonal skills to create and define actionable analytics solutions for key stakeholders. This individual should have an eye for detail and be able to independently troubleshoot problems and follow them through to remediation.

Expected Contributions

  • Lead a team of analytics professionals with a diverse set of data analysis and BI backgrounds within an agile development environment. Provide direction, prioritization, and coaching with a focus on developing and expanding their skills.
  • Contributes to team, department and/or business results by performing more complex quantitative and qualitative analysis for business processes and/or projects. Often manages small projects, business processes or parts of larger ones.
  • Responds to, solves, and makes decisions on more complex/non-routine business requests with limited to moderate risk.
  • Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and/or business results. May direct work of non-management staff.
  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by:
    • identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of business processes.
    • providing training and technical guidance to fellow associates, where appropriate, and serving as point-of-contact for problem resolution.
    • participating in setting department operating plans.

Specific Expected Contributions
  • The Director, Digital Analytics & Optimization will help promote the use of data and analytics throughout the organization, while focusing on uncovering new insights from this data using quantitative analysis. They will provide their internal customers with regularly updated reports and dashboards.
  • The person filling this role will be responsible for providing guidance, best practices, and the leadership needed to achieve the team's goals, including development of technical best practices for data movement, data quality, and data cleansing. They will work closely with the VP, Global Data Insights to prioritize the work and to develop ongoing analytics strategy.
  • They will meet with a variety of teams including developers, project leaders, and product owners to understand and define analytic requirements within an agile environment.
  • The person will regularly present findings from the analysis to leaders within the organization.
  • Troubleshoot web data/defects discovered through voice of customer feedback or analytics data and work to remediate the issue.
  • Formulate hypothesis and develop A/B testing methods across our digital landscape.
  • Develop and maintain customer dashboards for consumption by senior leadership.
  • Consult with Digital Customer Experience team to develop detailed tracking for their business initiatives.
  • Identify new opportunities to test initiatives across brand and utilize testing tools (e.g. Adobe Target primarily) to gain actionable insights.
  • Provide internal customers with regularly updated reports and dashboards related to MVW's digital efforts such as websites and apps. They will also provide insight into digital experience performance derived from quantitative analysis.
  • Develop reports, visualizations, and dashboards. This includes managing the back-end data connectivity and automation.
  • Recommend the right key performance indicators to match the needs of leaders, working closely with key stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Meet with a variety of digital contributors including developers, project leaders, and product owners to understand and define analytic requirements within an agile environment.
  • Regularly update the project management system of record as they develop new dashboards and visualizations for internal use.

  • Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:
  • Generally, a professional position with specific knowledge in a discipline (e.g., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology). College degree and/or relevant experience typically required.
Specific Candidate Profile
  • 8+ years of experience in a leadership position managing and building out a digital analytics team in a business setting is preferred.
  • Degree in a quantitative discipline, or MBA is preferred.
  • Experience with performance marketing measurement and analytics is preferred.
  • Experience in interacting with internal or external clients to understand business issues, develop solutions, generate insights, and present findings and recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including data audit skill; ability to interpret analytical results to technical and non-technical audiences, including management.
  • Self-motivation and ability to execute independently with limited guidance.
  • The ability to lead others in the pursuit of achieving a goal.
  • Experience in manipulating, merging, and displaying data sets utilizing tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, Tableau Prep, SQL Server Management Studio, Python, R.
  • Experience with Adobe and/or Google Analytics tools is required.
  • Experience with documentation such as technical specifications for analytics implementation is preferred.
  • Experience in the timeshare industry is preferred.
