Job Description:

Southern Utah University seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic performer and teacher to oversee the choral program as Assistant Professor, Director of Choral Activities. This versatile artist and educator must have deep experience and knowledge in a variety of performing styles, be comfortable in preparing students to work in a diverse and multicultural environment and be capable of teaching students in a variety of performance-based and teaching-based degree programs, as they prepare for careers in contemporary music, teaching, and performance, inclusive of traditional and modern practice and genres ranging from western music to non-western world traditions. This is a full-time, tenure track position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Direct and/or oversee the choral ensembles.
2. Teach music education courses, including choral methods, choral literature, and fundamental and advanced choral conducting.
3. Teach applied voice lessons and other music courses as necessary.
4. Assist with the music education curriculum, student teacher supervision, and related music education courses; opportunities for graduate level teaching may be available.
5. Actively recruit in the area, state, and beyond.
6. Maintain a positive relationship with music educators in the region, including active participation in local, regional, state, and national music organizations.
7. Serve on committees and fulfill other duties as assigned by the chair.

Education and Experience Requirements:

1. Doctorate degree in music required
2. Expertise required in voice
3. College or University teaching experience preferred
