Job Title: Director of Nursing Services

Job Description:
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, with on-call availability for emergencies in the nursing facility. Typical work hours range from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM or 4:00 PM.
Education:
  • Must possess a valid unencumbered RN State License.
  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or related healthcare setting.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
Specific Requirements:
  • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills appropriate for the age-related needs of residents.
  • Proficiency in the English language (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding).
  • Team-oriented with the ability to contribute effectively to a team.
  • Capable of making independent decisions as needed.
  • Familiarity with nursing and medical practices, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Willingness to adopt new methods and principles into existing nursing practices.
Delegation of Authority: As Director of Nursing Services, you are entrusted with administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to fulfill your assigned duties. In the absence of the Medical Director, you are responsible for implementing the resident care policies established by the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative Functions:
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department and its programs in compliance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing care facilities.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures for daily nursing service department operations.
  • Provide recommendations for enhancing the Policy and Procedure Manual to the Administration and VP, Clinical Services.
  • Participate in facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies when required.
  • Collaborate with the Discharge Planning Coordinator to develop, implement, and update written procedures for the Discharge Planning Program.
Personnel Functions:
  • Inform the Nurse Supervisor and/or Unit Manager of staffing needs in case assigned personnel fail to report for duty.
  • Recommend overtime for CNAs/GNAs and other nursing personnel as necessary to ensure resident needs are met.
  • Offer feedback and recommendations for probationary and annual employee performance evaluations for CNAs/GNAs and other nursing personnel.
  • Prepare probationary and annual employee performance evaluations for CNAs/GNAs and other nursing personnel and conduct performance review meetings.
  • Supervise and assist in scheduling employees within established state guidelines.
  • Assist the Administrator and/or HR Delegate in recruiting and selecting nursing service personnel.
