Purpose

The Director, Reliability and Technical Projects, is responsible for Ensuring the investments and successful implementation of the reliability programs while leveraging the value of global and local technical expertise in support of the project, engaging programs and processes efficiency and maximization of benefits.

Responsibilities

The role is key to ensuring the identification and implementation opportunities identified by the Transformational Plan related to Asset Management, which has the potential to improve Networks Business and are key to maintaining sustainable results for AVANGRID in the medium to long term. Been working matrixial together with the AVANGRID team, assisting and supporting all the initiatives to guarantee the results expected by the Transformational Reliability Plan. It requires someone with good communication capabilities, resiliency, challenging status quo, and knowledge of change management. This role directly reports to the Senior Director, Operational Excellence, and is responsible for updating achievements and progress on a weekly basis to the Vice President and monthly to the Chief Operating Officer.

  • Identifies and measures KPIs to ensure the realization of operational benefits for Avangrid and its customers from the deployment of digitalization, automation and reliability programs.
  • Sets general criteria and procedures to ensure efficient execution of Network investments plans.
  • Identifies gaps in current operational processes and proposes improvements to optimize the operational benefits for AVANGRID Network.
  • Ensures coordination of Network Automation program with all other digitalization streamlines while guaranteeing full alignment with Overall project strategy, company standards and maintenance programs.
  • Provides technical guidance on Network Automation, automation of substations, protection and control, in coordination with local standardization groups.
  • Promote global collaboration across country experts to facilitate best practices adoption.
  • Develops a strong relationship with internal areas in order to direct process change implementation (Customer Service, Processes & Technology, IT, HR and Electric Operations).
  • Manages subordinate staff. Sets group goals and strategic direction and initiates action plans and assignments to accomplish goals. Develops business plans with technical justifications and economic impact and seeks approval from executives.
  • Provides technical support, guidance, coaching and counseling toward effective performance and appraises individual performance. Develops organizational performance measures and initiates actions to enhance performance.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:
  • [Must] Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electrical distribution with a minimum of 5 years of experience in network automation systems, standards and protection and coordination.
  • [Must] Broad experience in procurement processes for equipment and services associated with network and substation automation projects.

Skills/Abilities:
  • [Must] Broad experience in procurement processes for equipment and services associated with network automation projects.
  • [Must] Broad knowledge of network operation and maintenance. [Must] Experience in developing processes, procedures and performance KPIs for continuous improvement.
  • [Must] Working knowledge of fundamentals of equipment protection, control and SCADA.
  • [Preferred] Experience in reviewing and analyzing federal and state statutory and regulatory codes (FERC/NERC/NPCC) and actions and proposing long term plans to address the requirements.
  • [Preferred] Experience in developing design and equipment standards based on industry standards, best practices and operational feedback. Broad knowledge of international standards associated with power systems protection and control systems.
  • [Must] Exceptionally strong planning, coordinating and organizational skills.
  • [Must] Strong leadership skills, with ability to manage multiple assignments and conflict resolution.
  • [Must] Able to foster individual professional development. [Must] Strong communication skills to articulate highly technical concepts.
  • [Must] High safety adherence to involve in the activity.
  • [Must] Able to communicate effectively with outside regulatory and governmental agencies, as well as the rest Companies across Avangrid Networks.
