EAF Attendant - position is responsible for assisting the EAF Operator and performing duties associated with the operations of the electric arc furnace located at our Faircrest Plant location. Employees in this position are responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Be a motivated and safety minded team member of the Faircrest Melt department and TimkenSteel Corporation.
  • Operate cranes to transport material into the furnace, position buckets for staging, transport assets, such as electrodes, and assist maintenance with repairs and miscellaneous lifts.
  • Perform a variety of duties associated with the furnace such as add and slip electrodes, patch furnace, make hand additions, take chemistry samples and temperatures, position and connect oxygen hose and pipe, melt away scrap from lance port, maintain tapping runner and unclog tap tile, and visually monitor the furnace and report any problems to the EAF Operator.
  • Perform duties associated with the ladle such as take temperature, add sand to nozzle before tapping, and hooking up argon hoses.
  • Operate scrap preheater and auxiliary equipment.
  • Communicate with other departments and pulpits to exchange information.
  • Works with data processing equipment to enter and confirm information in the systems.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties such as maintain furnace supplies, inspect equipment, perform preventative maintenance and repairs, maintain tools, equipment, and a clean and orderly work area for a safe and efficient workspace.
  • Demonstrate ability to problem solve and think critically.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work at heights of 50 feet up to 100 feet
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds at one time, 50 pounds multiple times a day
  • Ability to operate cranes, and motor vehicles
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures
Qualified candidates will have:
  • At least a high school diploma/GED. Technical training or Associates degree preferred. At least 6 months of experience in melting, forging, or hot metals.
Preferred candidates will have:
  • Technical training or Associates degree and at least 1 year of experience in melting, forging or hot metals.
