We are growing! We are currently hiring for additional Estimators or Systems Engineers to prepare cost estimates and technical proposals for KOCH Finishing Systems.

This is accomplished through applications engineering and system design with sales account managers, project engineers, potential customers, vendors, and sub-contractors.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of mechanical and process design, including calculations, P&IDs, equipment sizing, and component selection.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Thorough knowledge of automated or processing equipment
  • Ability to continuously initiate improvements of any KOCH or equivalent equipment.
  • Skills in current software applications, i.e., Inventor, AutoCAD and MS Office products.
  • Ability to apply engineering training to solve the variety of problems related to finishing and specialized processing equipment in the estimating phase.
  • Ability to initiate change and create a sense of urgency.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Performs complete system layout, design, equipment sizing, equipment selection and estimating on major projects.
  • Reviews scope of project with sales account manager and design system to perform specified process.
  • Communicates directly with customer, paint and chemical suppliers, and other partners as required for input.
  • Schedules time as required to meet customer deadlines and expectations.
  • Applies proper economic and technical judgment to maximize output without sacrificing accuracy. Uses educated judgment based on previous experience to provide accurate estimates to customers as quickly as possible.
  • Lowers costs to the customer by creating innovative initial designs, working with multiple suppliers to obtain the best prices on required system components, and recognizing shop assembly opportunities which may reduce field time and cost.
  • Prepares specifications for subcontracted and purchased items to obtain supplier's full understanding of requirements.
  • Shares information with team members that would improve department efficiency and reduce cycle time.
  • Provides technical support to Sales by participating in meetings with customers, assisting with sales strategies, travelling with sales personnel as required, maintaining proper order and written documentation in sales folders, and checking proposal against estimate for accuracy.
  • Maintains supporting involvement in projects through engineering and installation phases by assisting in design interpretation, suggesting cost saving ideas to increase job profit, and estimating change orders.
  • Assists with cost manual updates and standard pricing development. Develops cost manual back-ups and revises cost manual sheets as required to maintain assigned area.
  • Focuses on winning contracts from customers by creating estimates quickly, accurately, and as cost effectively as possible.
  • Documents all critical information in writing.
  • Represents the company at various trade shows and professional groups.
