Job Description:

The Executive Director of the Utah Summer Games (USG) will be responsible for developing and managing all aspects of the Utah Summer Games including: staffing, sponsorships, finance, public relations, non-profit management, volunteerism, and relationships within the communities. This position will work with major local community partners (Cedar City Corp. Iron County Tourism Bureau, Southern Utah University) to create a strong connection between Southern Utah University and the community. This position will build partnerships that will ensure year long sporting event opportunities. This will include overseeing programs and partners such as Iron Games and the Utah High School State Championships through the Utah High School Activities Association.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Funding: Identify, develop & maintain, all donor relations, grants and other sponsorship opportunities.
2. Operations: Lead USG team members in the development and growth of sporting events, volunteer development, venues and athletes registration.
3. Strategic Planning: Develop & implement strategic plans for financial development, public awareness & registrant growth.
4. Internal Partnership: Lead coordination with University departments to include scheduling, facilities, student affairs, athletics, President's Office, and departments in the Office of Regional Services.
5. Finances: Direct all financial affairs to include budgeting and fiscal management for USG and associated programming.
6. Travel: Travel periodically in order to maintain current community, partner, & donor relations
7. Special Events: Direct events that will aid in the effort of community, athlete and University engagement (Opening Ceremonies, Block Party).
8. Utah Schools: Direct all efforts regarding UHSAA to include recruiting high school state sporting tournaments to Cedar City and on SUU campus.
9. Marketing & Communication: Direct all affairs relative to appropriate awareness of the USG opportunities and economic impact to locally elected officials, business owners, and citizens..
10. Board: Oversee the Utah Summer Games Board of Commissioners.
11. Work closely with the Assistant Vice President of the Office of Regional Services to develop ways to advance the mission of both the USG & SUU and to better connect ourselves to Southern Utah University through Marketing and Advertising efforts.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree required, Masters preferred.
2. Able to demonstrate an understanding for Non-Profit Management.
3. A minimum for 3 years in finance and budget management.
4. A minimum of 3 years practicing fundraising principles and best practices.
5. The ability to represent the university and community with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
6. The ability to articulate a compelling case for support of USG and the skills to build and maintain personal relationships among elected officials, faculty, staff, business leaders, volunteers and donors.
7. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
8. Must have the ability to develop relationships with people and organizations who will help advance the cause and increase the awareness of the USG.
9. Must be willing to assist other team members with logistical and organizational projects throughout the year.
10. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and be mindful of deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. A minimum of 2 years in management positions.
2. Background and proven track record in fundraising or sales.
3. Experience in collaborating with other organizations to increase the overall experience for all involved parties.
4. Inventive & creative.
5. Willing to have fun at work.

Physical Demands:

1. Must be willing to travel periodically to foster and develop donor relations.
2. Must be able to lift and carry 50+ lbs.
3. Must be able, in the months of May & June, to work long weeks (80+hours) and days (15+ hours) during event season and during other tournaments throughout the year.
