Pennoni is a multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm founded more than five decades ago. We approach engineering challenges from a wider spectrum of angles than most, from land development to energy management. Our goal is to help communities and private sector clients alike navigate the ever-changing technological advancements available and learn how best to integrate “smart” solutions into the current landscape to make them a part of resilient and sustainable planning. Our combination of talent and experience generates unprecedented solutions for diverse and iconic projects around the globe.

About Structural Technology Group

The Structural Technology Group within Pennoni Associates Inc. focuses on structural monitoring of infrastructure and buildings. The group deploys the most mature technologies (inclusive of sensing, simulation, materials, and information technologies) into practice to serve the needs of bridge and building owners. The key feature that distinguishes us from other technology providers, and the reason for our success, is that we are first and foremost structural/bridge engineers with decades of experience in various technology domains through advanced studies and research.

We maintain a sound understanding of bridge and building design, inspection, management, and retrofitting processes, and work closely with owners to improve these processes through research. This background is critical to providing a common perspective, language, and understanding with the engineering firms and agencies we serve – a requirement for effective collaboration.

Pennoni Associates Inc. is seeking a qualified Graduate Engineer I to join our Structural Technology group in the Philadelphia office. The group provides infrastructure owners with state-of-the-art engineering solutions that respond to structural performance questions that are beyond the reach of traditional engineering approaches that integrate IoT sensing technologies with state of the art telecommunication systems and advanced data processing hosted in the cloud.

The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers to design and install structural health monitoring (SHM) systems, conduct structural load testing and load rating, evaluate structural performance and conduct bridge inspection to identify optimal actions supporting structure maintenance, refurbishment, and rehabilitation. The work will be performed on various small and large bridge projects and buildings across the United States and perhaps throughout the world. This work will include both system design work in office and field installations on site. Candidates will need a firm grasp of undergraduate level structural concepts (beam analysis, steel and concrete design, statistical analysis) and the ability to learn new concepts and systems (electrical system design, sensor specifications, SHM system design).
