JOB SUMMARY

Serves as the health and safety technical professional at the asset. Interprets state and federal regulations and provides compliance direction. Collaborates with site leaders to build safety culture by recommending changes to work conditions and procedures to improve the work environment and comply with all health and safety regulations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Maintains knowledge of health and safety regulations and develops the skills necessary to interpret state and federal standards in order to provide compliance direction
  • Inspects work environment for unsafe work procedures and hazards to ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • Implements regulatory requirements as well as company health and safety policies and procedures
  • Assesses compliance with regulatory requirements and company health and safety policies and procedures and progresses recommendations to strengthen programs
  • Delivers safety perspective to Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), coordinates Management of Change (MOC), participates in Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), manages contractor qualification and directs safe work practices
  • Supports operations during sequential and safety meetings presenting data and statistics to support regional goals and objectives
  • Leads incident investigations ensuring root causes are identified
  • Reviews adequacy and closure of corrective action items related to incident investigations, audits, agency inspections, etc.
  • Provides technical support during health and safety/Process Safety Management (PSM) audits and serves as an audit team leader on division and corporate audits
  • Coordinates industrial hygiene efforts for asset including exposure monitoring and assessments
  • Promotes site physical security program
  • Develops, coordinates, and conducts required health and safety training
  • Authors various reports and presentations for dissemination to asset, division and corporate audiences
  • Interacts with local communities to ensure positive and proactive relations are maintained
  • Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a similar degree field, and/or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience is required although employees typically have 7-10 years; oil and gas industry experience preferred
  • Prior experience with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration preferred
  • Strong understanding of safety work practices and operational processes with a working knowledge of PSM systems
  • Understanding of safety permitting processes (i.e. hot work, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, excavations, etc.)
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to influence at a local level and across a broad organization
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
SALARY
  • The salary is $82,900-$132,700.

    Primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc. Noise level is typically low. Frequently in a stationary, sitting position for prolonged periods of time. Regularly moves about inside the office to complete tasks, attend meetings or to access the copy machine or file cabinets. Periodically pulls/pushes doors open to move around the office. Occasionally may lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.

    Occasionally visits/works in the field at pump and meter stations, plant facilities, and warehouses. Required to wear PPE, depending on local and company safety policies. Occasionally may climb A-frame ladders.
