Overview

The Hearing Representative will be primarily responsible for the analysis, management and resolution of lien cases. Attend lien hearings and negotiate resolution of provider liens in an assigned caseload of workers' compensation claims. This position will work closely with the Claims Management and medical bill review teams to ensure the efficient and cost-effective resolution of liens. Position will also present settlement documents before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) for approval, as well as defend AmTrust's position at lien trial if appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Manage case inventory comprised predominantly of lien only claims;
  • Meet monthly targets for lien case closures;
  • Communicate professionally and proactively with Claims, Insureds and others
  • Concise, professional legal writing skills need to documents claims closure efforts
  • Manage entire life cycle of lien litigation, from open negotiations through to settlement and/or trial
  • Prepare defenses to present at trial where AmTrust clearly lacks responsibility for liens
  • Represent AmTrust professionally court appearances at lien conferences and trials


Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS :
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Excellent writing skills - including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Exceptional telephone etiquette and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and within deadlines.
  • Must be self-motivated, disciplined and organized, with superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
  • Reliable, with an excellent attendance record.
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute, with accuracy.
  • Must own a dependable car and meet insurance requirements.

EXPERIENCE :
  • 2+ years experience handling workers' compensation lien hearings
  • 1+ year working in an office environment


WHAT WILL SET YOU APART
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years workers' compensation hearing representative experience before the California WCAB
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal and professional journals, technical procedures, laws, and governmental regulations; ability to negotiate, write and interpret legal and business correspondence and reports; ability to effectively present research, make compelling and persuasive arguments, and professionally respond to questions from attorneys, hearing representatives, lien claimants, judges, and court personnel Computer Skills: Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software and be able to master and become proficient proprietary and vended software programs
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Analytical Ability: Ability to conduct legal research, analyze data and prepare recommendations demonstrated ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations; ability to derive appropriate conclusions from research; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work remotely and regularly travel to various hearings and meetings as required
  • Ability to demonstrate self-starter capabilities and ability to prioritize important tasks and deadlines that derive from a voluminous case load
