Directly: ILS Technical Writer Lead

SUPERVISES: N/A

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for development and preparation of all assigned equipment manuals, system/special manuals and other technical data products:
    • Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences
    • Review Vendor Furnished Information to ensure compliance with contractual requirements by following provided checklists and technical manual plans
    • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations and trade journals.
    • Preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
    • Interfaces with subject matter experts and other engineering personnel during the development of these products.
  • Responsible for interfacing with OEMs/Suppliers to obtain Vendor Furnished Information as needed
  • Responsible for ensuring all change order activity that impacts assigned technical manuals is processed and documented within assigned technical data products
  • Successful applicant must be willing to cross-train to other areas within ILS as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience interacting with internal and external customers
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Related degrees advantageous
  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office products
  • Prior U.S. Navy, MSC or USCG experience desired, but not required

Will determine the technical adequacy of all technical manual deliverables

LIAISES WITH: Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Equipment Suppliers and ILS Support Contractors

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
  • Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:
    • 18 years of age or older at time of application.
    • Able to provide proof of US Person Status
    • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
    • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
    • Willing to submit to a drug screen
    • Willing to submit to a background check
