Imaging Engineer

FACILITY SERVICES (Billings Clinic Main Campus)

Shift:  Varies

Employment Status:  Full-Time (.75 or greater)

Hours per Pay Period:  1.00 = 80 hours (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE:   $24.53 - $30.07

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the performance of scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance, repairs and calibration on all radiographic and fluroscopic equipment, including one or all of the following: CT, Vascular, Mammography, MRI, Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine. Maintains maintenance records in accordance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Maintains and repairs injectors, processors, image viewing equipment and other related equipment.

Essential Job Functions

* Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of DBC and department/service.
* Performs scheduled preventive maintenance of all radiology equipment with special attention to at least one of the specialty modalities (CT, Nuclear Medicine, Vascular or MRI). This includes radiology, fluoroscopy and tomographic fixed installations.
* Performs non-scheduled repairs or general maintenance on assigned equipment in a timely, cost effective manner. Ensures the system is returned to service meeting all performance and safety standards and manufacturer performance specifications.
* Participates in rotational on-call schedule to support the needs for imaging service after hours, weekends and holidays.
* Provides support to the other members of the imaging engineering team as needed.
* Supports the Equipment Management Program through accurate entry of work orders, and maintenance of an adequate spare parts inventory. Maintains maintenance records in accordance with state and federal regulatory standards.
* Reports equipment concerns and repair status to the appropriate department manager.
* Provides orientation and cross-training opportunities for other team members on equipment in which you are proficient.
* Assists with the review of sales and service from outside vendors. Maintains a high visibility and accessibility within the diagnostic imaging department.
* Participates as a member of the STAT team, fire brigade and disaster team.
* Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
* Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.
* Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* DBC policy and procedures, both organizational and departmental
* Computers systems, hardware and software as they relate to the operation of the Diagnostic Imaging equipment and the support of the Equipment Management Program
* Confidentiality requirements
* Regulations and standards set forth by the FDA, ACR, NRC or other recognized body as they relate to Diagnostic Imaging
* Basic medical terminology, anatomy and physiology as it relates to usage of diagnostic imaging equipment
* Infection control and related safety practices
* Hazardous chemicals and related safety practices
* Professional communication skills, both verbal and written
* Analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve equipment problems and/or failures
* Training skills to educate equipment operators on proper equipment utilization and operation
* Resourcefulness to analyze and correct encountered problems in an efficient and cost effective manner

* Incorporate cultural diversity and age appropriate care into all aspects of communication and patient care; scope of services provided will encompass age groups from infant through geriatric

* Manual dexterity required to handle small precision parts while maintaining and repairing diagnostic imaging equipment
* Concentrate and pay close attention to details a majority of the worked time
* Lift and transport heavy equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted; over 50 pounds with assistance

* Work independently with minimal supervision
* Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of work load assignments
* Respond calmly and professionally in difficult or emergent situations
* Responsible for monitoring the safety, calibration, maintenance and repair of sophisticated radiology equipment which requires a high degree of technical expertise, proficiency and accuracy
* Performance of these duties directly impact the quality of patient care provided

 

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Associates Degree in Medical Electronics or Electronics with an equivalent formal training relating to human anatomy and physiology

Experience

  • Two years of experience directly related to radiology services
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
