Department Summary:

International Affairs is a guide and champion for campus internationalization at UNT. It is the mission of International Affairs to support the university's global endeavors and international initiatives. We support international teaching, research, and service in the provision of expertise and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

Our staff is here to help the international community at UNT navigate U.S. immigration regulations.

Position Overview:

This position serves as part of the F-1 student advising team in the International Student and Scholar Services Office. The International Student and Scholar Services Advisor is responsible for timely issuance of Initial Attendance I-20's, entry level F-1 student advising for continuing international students, and document processing as related to F-1 status.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree and two years of office administration experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must be eligible to serve as a Designated School Official under U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Understanding of the immigration regulation(s) associated with assigned area.
* Must meet federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
* Experience with SEVIS and a vendor software.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Working knowledge of business practices and procedures, ability to organize, detail oriented; capacity to multi-task; good time management skills.
* Ability to work well under stress.
* Ability to work in an open office area with much activity.

Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm

o:

Advising: Provide accurate and compassionate advising for F-1 International students and their dependents including giving information and advice to students regarding maintenance of their status, employment opportunities, etc. It also includes providing information to departments and the University Community as data requests require. Complex advising cases will be escalated to a Senior Immigration Advisor.

o:

Documentation: Provide documentation as required for international students efficiently and accurately. This includes issuing I-20s and letters within specified processing times as well as helping to complete general student requests, UNT document processing, and OPT applications to USCIS.

o:

Compliance: Conduct reporting as required by immigration regulations for F-1 students. This includes semesterly SEVIS registration and intermittent updates such as program changes, including change of major, change of level, program extensions and completion dates.

o:

Database management: Use university databases such as Sunapsis and EIS to maintain accurate and confidential student records, batch to SEVIS, and keep data up to date.

o:

Collaboration: Works cooperatively with other departmental units in support of international student requests such as the Graduate School, UNT Admissions, Academic Advising, IELI Admissions, and various other departments throughout campus.
