Position Title: Kiln Department Manager

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, organize, and manage production operations for a specific department(s) across all shifts
• Help to maintain a safe, healthy and organized working environment for all areas
• Plan and schedule work to meet production requirements while making effective use of labor, material, and equipment
• Manage supervisor(s) on all shifts insofar it relates to the kilns to maintain production within department
• Coach and review performance of direct reports
• Serve as technical expert in plant for assigned process, sufficient to train new supervisors or production employees
• Assure adherence to operating standards, assists in the coordination of production schedules and budget planning
• Interview applicants and evaluates selection of new employees in hiring and transfer process
• Conduct training on new procedures and oversees new hire training
• Perform other duties as required; ensure the kiln equipment is working within specifications, safely and efficiently
• Ensure quality control measures are met; troubleshoot problems that present themselves at the exit (cracks, warpage, size etc.)
• Identifies and resolves kiln issues and notifies upstream departments when upstream causes are identified
• Monitor the inventory of kiln consumables, including, but not limited to, rollers, roller bricks, baffles, burner blocks, hoses and similar items
• Monitor status of equipment and consumables and organizes/requests interventions to maintain optimal conditions (rollers change and cleaning, baffles and walls repair, other operations with maintenance support)
• Ensure all personnel are trained on kiln standard operating procedures
• Coordinate maintenance needs for departmental operations
• Kiln Department Manager position has 25 total direct reports. Positions that report to the Kiln Department Manager are Technicians and Operators.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 1 year of experience in EACH of the following:
  • Experience as a supervisor; and
  • Experience in a ceramic tile manufacturing facility
• Requires less than 10% travel to domestic locations only
• Experience may be gained concurrently
