Job Summary

Supervises gas engineering group and provides technical guidance to the team. Responsible to schedule work to meet or exceed departmental and corporate goals and objectives. Lead supervisor has knowledge in the design and engineering of gas distribution, transmission systems, regulator stations and infrastructure improvements. Complete work order packages apply all required standards moderately complex work orders. Applies company, industry, local, state, national codes, tariffs, and standards, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Interacts with customers, developers, municipalities, agencies, and others.

Responsibilities

Oversees the engineering design of new and upgraded gas distribution and transmission system infrastructure improvements and replacements to serve new and existing load and customers. Supports Gas Planning and Mapping via the supply of data used to update gas system maps, regulator station data, and critical valve records. Identifies infrastructure projects in support of capital budgeting. Prepares construction design packages and works with Gas Operations to assign construction resources to projects. Supports Gas Field Operations and other departments. Applies company, industry, local, state, national codes, tariffs, and standards, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Provides engineering expertise for the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the distribution and transmission systems. Acts as liaison for the Company with customers and with state and municipal agencies to coordinate efforts. Provides guidance and mentoring of engineers and analysts. Manages technical support contractors and consultants.

Skills and Requirements

  • Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization)
  • Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g. field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.")
  • Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation
  • Ability to review and approve engineering work - Ensure work performed by department engineers are completed according to company standards/specifications as well as maintaining goals, schedules, and accurate cost estimating process.
  • Project Management - Engineering supervisor coordinates with Operations and project Management organization to ensure technical competence and quality objects are fulfilled by assigned team members.
  • Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department
  • Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills
  • Ability to collaborate across departments
  • Liaison/ direct contractors on company policy, standards and best practices
  • Able to explain difficult concepts and influence others to change.
  • Able to communicate orally or in writing to regulatory and/or public entities.
  • Able to lead a Team or mentor others
Education & Experience Required:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering Technology; Master's Degree preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of technical experience in gas engineering and/or related field
  • Professional engineering license desirable
  • Expert in the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the distribution and transmission systems. Through knowledge of Standards, Gas Tariff, O&M and NFG code.

Preferred Qualifications: (Optional)
  • Advanced degree / relevant certifications
  • Experience working in Gas Utility
  • Experience in related work
