Plan, direct, and control the efforts of the Maintenance Department to maintain and support plant equipment and facilities in world class working order.

  • Understand and support safety as the first priority
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, local, state, and federal regulations
  • Ensure the following facility programs are followed: Safety, Food Safety, GMP, Preventive Maintenance, Quality Assurance, and Sanitation
  • Coordinate and communicate the hiring of maintenance personnel and lead people for the completion of proposed maintenance and support the production schedule
  • Is accountable for the preventive maintenance program and maintenance of production equipment and facilities
  • Develop, maintain, and administer an organization qualified to maintain all equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient working condition. Execute an effective preventive maintenance program to minimize unscheduled down time
  • Maintain all operating equipment in satisfactory condition. Schedule needed repair to have minimum interference with production activities
  • Ensure that production equipment is capable of producing within the specifications and tolerances established by the equipment vendor/manufacturer
  • Provide leadership and direction for activities of maintenance technicians engaged in the maintenance, electrical, and mechanical operations
  • Organize work from work orders, estimate worker-hour requirements, and delegate work to employees in maintenance department
  • Maintain contacts with vendors to requisition materials and supplies for department and monitor a sufficient inventory
  • Develop, schedule, and control a preventative maintenance program to maintain production machinery and equipment in proper working condition
  • Inspect jobs in process and at completion to ensure that standards of workman-ship and safety are maintained
  • Possess a strong sense of urgency and the ability to transmit that sense of urgency to the maintenance technicians in a constructive fashion
  • Maintain inventories of maintenance materials, supplies, and repair parts at required levels by initiating requisitions for purchase; periodically review inventory for proper up keep at plant facilities
  • Recommend and plan equipment needs to improve production efficiency and/or achieve cost reduction
  • Play a vital support function in management and execution of a site's CAPEX projects
  • Work closely with the production group to coordinate work. Continually look for avenues to improve communication between the production and maintenance groups
  • Be an active member of the safety committee and actively promote all plant safety initiatives
  • Consult with Engineering staff, Plant Manager, and the Production Department regarding desirable modifications of existing equipment and facilities and the possible replacement of existing equipment which will improve operations and reduce maintenance costs
  • Coordinate the efficient operation of all facilities necessary to the distribution and usage of electric power, natural gas, and water
  • Analyze cost studies of proposals for new equipment in the department designed to secure reduced operating costs. Make recommendations to the Plant Manager
  • Develop objectives and standards of performance for projects within the Maintenance Department required to meet departmental, divisional, and corporate goals and objectives
  • Plan and provide for an adequate supply and ensure control over spare parts and maintenance supplies. Control labor cost within department
  • Require and support all GMP rules in the plant with his staff
  • Support and lead staff in a professional manner to include yearly evaluations, attendance, vacations, and all disciplinary reviews
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to, GMP's, HAACP, SQF, Safety, etc.
  • Implement CI Programs including Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and Leader Standard Work
  • Follow all DFA GMP's and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory, food safety, quality and sanitation requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • PLC knowledge and an understanding of Waste Water and Process Safety Management (PSM) and refrigeration and boilers
  • Experience with evaporators, spray drying equipment, and dairy equipment preferred
  • License and/or Certification -- None
  • Working knowledge of dairy processing equipment
  • Working knowledge of Boilers, HVAC, air compressors, cooling towers, ammonia compressors, electrical
  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems, specifically Excel, Word, SAP, and other report writing tools
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing (including professional presentations)
  • Able to employ, lead, and direct continuous improvement concepts to move site's culture forward
  • Able to evaluate and weigh alternatives, establish relative priorities, and formulate decisions that affect all phases of the operation; able to achieve results through subordinate supervision
  • Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
  • Able to analyze equipment problems and identify root cause to equipment problems
  • Able to complete basic arithmetic, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions
  • Able to build relationships
  • Skill in project management, technical reading, and supervision
  • Must possess a balance of technical, human relations, and conceptual skills
  • Effective human relations skills, including good listening ability and the capability to convince others to establish or change precedents
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

Salary Range; $85K - 90K annual base salary and bonus eligible
