Position Summary

Lead maintenance team and contractors in the maintenance of buildings, utility equipment, production equipment, and plant grounds. Foster development of colleague skillsets and capabilities. Evaluate and approve requisitions and maintain parts inventory for maintenance functions. Perform job duties in the most effective manner possible to meet FDA/USDA/UK/cGMP/OSHA/EPA requirements

Position Responsibilities

  • Support Preventative Maintenance to promote high uptime; follow established PM standards and practices while minimally affecting line performance.
  • Respond to equipment downtime, assigning tasks and organizing Colleagues to recover as quickly as possible; Assist root cause analysis on the causes of downtime and take steps to minimize causes.
  • Ensure all colleagues are adequately trained and continue to receive training on cGMPs, Safety, OSHA, technical skills, policies, and procedures. Ensure training documentation is accurate and only trained colleagues are allowed to perform functions.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Identify and correct safety hazards. Conduct investigations. Assure compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement for facilities and equipment. Contribute to the development and advancement of standard operating procedures and training.
  • Participate in discussions with Engineering, Maintenance, and Utilities colleagues on training and best practices/technical methods.
  • Develop approaches to reduce Maintenance costs through innovation and management leadership.
  • Support changeovers as needed, following standard practices; recommend changes to changeover practices to reduce time.
  • Coach technicians in the conduct of routine inspections for early identification of equipment problems and in the execution of select maintenance practices.
  • Maintain documentation and training for preventive maintenance and repair practices.
  • Establish and control the designated expense budget; assist in determining capital budget needs for the department.
  • Use situational leadership skills.

Resources Managed

Teams of 12 - 20 colleagues.

Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree in a technical field, or commensurate levels of industrial experience with demonstrated leadership skills and applicable technical knowledge.
  • 8 years experience as a craftsman in a manufacturing facility department or relevant experience in engineering.
  • 3 years experience in a lead person position in a manufacturing facility maintenance department.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technical and safety training programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop preventative maintenance programs for utility and manufacturing equipment.
  • Technical knowledge of calibration instrumentation, as well production equipment in general.
  • Knowledge of FDA/USDA/GMP/OSHA regulations applicable to the Pharmaceutical/Biological industry.

Preferred Candidate Qualifications Include
  • BS in Engineering or related field.
  • 3 years Supervisory experience in a Maintenance role
  • 8 to 10 years' experience in the Maintenance Department at a Pharmaceutical/Biological production facility.

Technician Skills and Competencies Required
  • Have a working knowledge of and be able to safely and competently operate hand and power tools.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and positively influence internal and external work groups.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Valid drivers' license may be required.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access, and the CMMS.
  • Ability to distinguish colors associated with mechanical and electrical craft work

Physical Position Requirements
  • Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • May be exposed to temperature variations and may work in noisy and unconditioned areas.
  • Prolonged standing, crouching, sitting, walking, and climbing may be part of the candidate's daily routine.
