Position Summary...

What you'll do...

NOTE: This is an Individual Contributor position and is not a manager position with direct reports.

The Collaboration Tools Engineering Team provides a platform for Walmart global technology teams to plan, track and collaborate, and tools for executives to make decisions about resourcing and product roadmaps on a large scale. We leverage industry-standard tools like Jira and Confluence, and we build our own custom web tools, data and reporting to empower management decision-making.

As a Systems Engineering focused on Collaboration Tools, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Provide the world's best collaboration tool experience through customized Jira and Confluence Data Center instances
  • Solve unique technical challenges with one of the largest instances of Atlassian tools
  • Design, implement, and standardize Jira and Confluence customization at scale.
  • Become an SME for Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, and Confluence


Skillsets required:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or electrical engineering with >8 years of experience
  • Jira Software, Jira ServiceDesk, and Confluence administration and installation
  • Analyze, Install, Upgrade and test plugins for Jira and Confluence
  • Lead and perform major/minor updates of Jira and Confluence on-prem data center.
  • Administration and creation of workflows, customfields, permission schemes, notification schemes, screen schemes, project creation, and user management
  • Experience with Scriptrunner, Groovy scripting and other scripting languages to automate functions within Jira and Confluence
  • Ability to work with Atlassian to resolve incidents and user issues.
  • Ability to analyze and approve custom API integration requests for Jira and Confluence
  • Ability to write custom JQL and SQL for reporting of data and troubleshooting issues.
  • Experience with analyzing logs and Linux commands as a power user.
  • Cloud concepts: Infrastructure as code, private/public cloud
  • Understanding of database (Oracle, MS SQL), network, firewall, block storage mount concepts - ability to direct and work with those areas for end to end app solution
  • Infrastructure design and concepts for web applications
  • Ability to work closely with and communicate effectively with Jira and Confluence Product owners and other systems engineers on the team
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, triaging application incidents and customer escalations
  • Experience with application monitoring tools and troubleshooting of Java applications
  • Maintenance, Operational troubleshooting and tuning for Jira or Confluence health (system and application level)
  • Experience with ITIL (Change, Incident, and Problem Management)


Preferred skills:
  • Linux Power User Knowledge (command line)
  • Ability to manage projects end to end, set own schedule and track, build and implement repeatable test plans
  • HA/DR design and implementation
  • Experience with test case management tools and Portfolio tools in Jira
  • Experience with scripting (shell, groovy, or other scripting languages), and SQL
  • Understanding of Active Directory concepts
  • Ability to influence and follow up on requests for cross-functional teams
  • Coordinate activities with Infrastructure and Platform Teams for maintenance tasks.
  • Manage and lead others within team as well as cross-functional resources
  • Ability to perform and lead upgrades of Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with data center migrations of Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with consolidations of Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with Azure, GCP concepts and managed services.


Manages small agile teams or workstreams for systems engineering solutions by analyzes requirements based on project or business needs; partners with cross-functional teams to determine system requirements for systems application development; evaluates existing options and determines solutions that support business or project requirements; develops and implements project timelines; builds systems engineering solutions; and works with the project team to integrate systems engineering solutions with overall project designs.

Troubleshoots issues related to systems engineering solutions by serves as software operational support and provides subject matter expertise; researches and reviews reported issues; develops and implements solutions based on expertise or escalates to appropriate teams when needed; identifies trends in issues and determines the root cause; collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive solutions; updates stakeholders on issue resolution.

Manages daily operations support for existing systems engineering solutions by performs complex maintenance and monitors the health and performance of systems engineering solutions; develops and delivers operational features and operations management systems and processes to accommodate growth and traffic on eCommerce websites; designs systems testing processes and environments; evaluates logs in order to proactively detect and document issues; performs daily requirements in order to ensure reliable and continued service; documents engineering processes and designs; and mentors and trains team members on applicable topics and processes.

Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.

Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
