Provides leadership and direction for all components of. Quality Control Laboratory. Ensures all analytical testing (chromatographic/spectroscopic/physical) performed in the Quality Control Laboratory is conducted strictly adhering to all cGMP/GLP requirements. Assigns testing to all subordinates, ensuring completion due dates are met without exception. Prioritizes assignments to fulfill all Company needs. Assists staff with the troubleshooting of analytical methods/instruments. Enforces all company compliance and safety requirements by periodic monitoring of subordinates. Initiates/Conducts/Completes all laboratory investigations following written guidelines in a scientific and expeditious fashion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prioritize and assign analytical testing to staff so as to meet all testing deadlines in a proactive, expeditious manner.
  • Follow-up and assess the performance of all staff on a daily basis.
  • Conduct all Laboratory Investigations (OOS/OOT/Deviation) in a scientific and expeditious fashion.
  • Review analytical notebooks periodically to assess the cGMP compliance of subordinates.
  • Train or re-train analysts as necessary.
  • Check and approve for release/reject all completed sample testing.
  • Develop and support staff to ensure they meet the company’s requirements/goals.
  • Provide written documentation to any staff member whose job performance is below expectations with the ultimate goal of improving performance.
  • Responsible for maintaining the personal work area appearance and any other areas as defined by Laboratory Management.
  • Assist all staff in troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and calibration of analytical instrumentation.
  • Create/revise standard operating procedures when required.
  • Communicate effectively with all interdepartmental/intradepartmental personnel. Proactively communicates any problems or delays to all necessary individuals.
  • Assist with the recruitment/interviewing of new departmental employment candidates.
  • Ensure all CAPA (Corrective Action/Preventive Action) items are completed expeditiously and before the completion date.


Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have proven interpersonal skills.
  • Well versed in cGMP of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Must have strong skills / experience with various types of laboratory testing techniques and instrumentation.
  • Must have strong knowledge of Empower software utilized for chromatographic systems.
  • Excellent computer and software skills.
  • Excellent problem solving aptitude, communication and multi-tasking skills.
  • Minimum of B.S. in Chemistry or life sciences, M.S. in Chemistry or other related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated excellence in chemical and/or pharmaceutical quality (cGMP) with an emphasis on Analytical Testing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for written work and PC use. Additional physical requirements include the ability to hear accurately the spoken word with moderate office noise (or plant noise).

  • Ability to apply deductive reasoning and understand complicated issues.
  • Ability to receive instructions and follow work rules and company policies.
  • Ability to follow safety and security practices.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and effectively deal with office stress.
