The Managing Director, Leveraged Finance is one of three associates who manage the group's origination efforts. The individual will develop and execute meaningful deal flow in both the sponsor coverage and asset based lending nationwide verticals. This will include, but not be limited to, representing the firm at industry conferences and working closely with internal and external referral sources such as private equity groups, family offices, investment banks, accountants, and attorneys.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Originate cash flow and asset based loans through active solicitation and cultivation of both internal and external business relationships.
  • Network prolifically with businesses, private equity groups, family offices, financial intermediaries, accountants, attorneys, other banks, etc.
  • Structure, negotiate, execute and monitor complex, multi-party transactions such as leverage buyouts, corporate carve outs, recapitalizations, securitizations, mezzanine transactions and refinancings.
  • Promote ancillary bank products and services as appropriate to new client requirements.
  • Understand risk/return and negotiate terms under which the credit will be extended to include pricing, fees, amortization, schedule, collateral requirements, lien priorities, subordinations, etc.
  • Qualify prospects by collecting and analyzing financial and related data in order to determine the general credit worthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan requests.
  • Lead the internal team to screen, underwrite, close, and manage ongoing monitoring for loans. Ongoing monitoring to include: working with the assigned portfolio manager to monitor adherence to covenants and reporting, timely reporting of negative trends as it relates to sales, liquidity, agings, turnovers, and other key financial metrics as appropriate. ,
  • Coordinate documentation of loan facilities with outside legal counsel to ensure and protect the Bank's rights and remedies to properly secure and collect the Bank's outstanding loans.
  • Coordinate with the portfolio manager to effectively transfer administration of the relationship post-closing but continue to provide guidance and ultimate ownership of the originated loan.
  • Provide best practices and guidance to other Business Development Officers in terms of networking, prospecting, and structuring credit facilities in order to achieve overall departmental goals.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, new developments and technologies in the field of both cash flow and asset based lending by participating in regular industry meetings and educational conferences.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job
  • Requires 10+ years of commercial lending experience, with at least 2+ years as a Business Development Officer in a cash flow or asset based lending group.
  • Experience in cash flow or asset-based lending, credit analysis, and complex commercial credit relationships preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in accounting/finance or related field preferred.
  • Advance degree or CPA license preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within entrepreneurial culture.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with lending officers throughout the bank.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently assess prospective and existing banking relationships and analyze complex loan proposals and financial statements.
  • Ability to identify key credit risk issues, evaluate and appropriately structure credit facilities.
  • Excellent credit, financial modeling, analytical and computer skills, and a thorough knowledge of finance and accounting.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
