Thenurseeducatorpromotesandsupportsexcellentnursingcareinaccordancewiththenursingmissionand philosophybyprovidinglearningopportunitiesusingevidencebasedpractice,currentnursingpracticestandards andresearchfindings.Learningopportunitiesareprovidedtoregisterednurses,licensedpracticalnurses, unlicensedsupportstaffandnursingstudents.Thenurseeducatorworkscollaborativelywithpatientcare managers,staffnurses,andotherhealthcareprofessionalsandinitiates/participatesinhospital-wideand unit-basedqualityimprovementprojects.TheDepartmentofNursingEducationsharesitsexpertisewithall membersofthehealthcareteamasneeded.
Maintainsnursingstaffcompetencybyproviding individualized,populationspecificunitbasedcompetenciesincollaborationwith nursemanagers.Providesongoingeducationviain-services,computerbased learningprograms,seminars,journalarticles,unitbasedreferencematerialsetc. Collaborateswithnursemanagersandotherhealthcareprofessionalstoidentify opportunitiesforeducation.Providesclinicalconsultationtopatientcaremanagers tohelpresolvejobperformanceproblems
EnhancesIndividualClinical PracticeofStaffbyassessingclinicalreasoningskillsofstaffandproviding learningopportunitiestoadvanceclinicalcompetencies,criticalthinking,and decision-makingskills.Fostersthedevelopmentofleadership,teamwork,and customerserviceskills.Provideseducationalactivitiesbasedonthelearning needsofstaffandperformanceimprovementdata.
ProvideseducationalprogramsopentoLoyolastaff andotherhealthcareprofessionalsbyassessingeducationalneedsin collaborationwithnursemanagersandunit-basededucators.Provides educationalprogramsbasedonapatientpopulation,disease,clinicalconditions etc.Providesmultidisciplinaryeducationalprogramsthataddresspsychosocial needsofthepatient,significantother(s)andfamily.Utilizesappropriateteaching methodologiestomeettheeducationalneedsofstaff.(
Coordinatesanddevelopsorientationforemployeesbyfacilitating andprovidingroleorientationforRN's,LPN's,PCT's,servicecoordinators,monitor techsandotherstaff.Providesspecialtyclassestomeetunitspecificneeds. Reviews,revisesanddevelopseducationalmaterialsthatreflecthospitalpolicies andregulatorystandards.Worksincollaborationwithpatientcaremanagersand stafftoensureorientationiscompetencybased.Reviews/revisesunitspecific checklistsandcorrespondingcriticalelements.
Providesconsultationtoadministration,managersandstaffto ensurequalityoutcomes.Reviewsappropriateinstitutionalpoliciesandprotocols toensureeducationalprogramsreflectspolicyandprotocolcontent.Servesasa clinicalresourceforpatientcarestaff.Mentorsandactivelyfacilitatestheclinical andprofessionaladvancementofstaff.Coachesorienteesandguidesstaffto appropriateresourcestoachieveperformanceexpectations.Rolemodelsand facilitatesresearchandscholarlyactivities.Linksstafftoexpertsourcesof knowledge.Activelyfostersstaffutilizationofresearchfindingsinclinicalpractice.
ProvidestraininginBasicLifeSupport(BLS),Advanced CardiacLifeSupport(ACLS)andPediatricAdvancedLifeSupport(PALS)to Loyolaemployeeswhorequiresuchlevelsofrecognition.Actsasaninstructorfor BLS,ACLS,andPALSclasses.Disseminatesinformationtotheentirehealth systemregardingchangestoAHAstandards.
Identifiesandseeksprofessionalgrowthand developmentwithinpersonalareaofspecializationtopromoteandmaintain optimalstandardsofpractice.Attendsandparticipatesinprofessionalactivities andeducationalofferingstoenhanceknowledgebasewithinareaof specialization.Seeksmembershipinprofessionalorganizationrelatedto specialty.
Evaluatestheimpactofcourseofferingsand appropriatelyrevisesfutureeducationalinitiativestomeetstaff'slearningneeds. Designsandimplementsevaluationtoolsforeducationalprogramsoffered. Collaborateswithadministrativedirectors,managers,andstafftosolicitfeedback ontheeducationalofferings.
ParticipatesinMedicalCenterandunitspecific committeestoshareeducationalperspectivesandexpertise.Leadsand participatesinsharedgovernancecouncilsandstaffliaisoncommittees. Coordinatesmeetingsandsupportsinitiativesdeveloped.Leads,facilitatesand/or participatesinunitbasededucation(i.e.journalclub,nursinggrandrounds,and qualityimprovementcommittees).
