Refiner Operator III

DESCRIPTION:

This is a rotating 12-hour day shift position that operates the wood yard, refining, gluing and drying processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors the continuous production of product through the wood yard, refiner, gluing system and dryer.
  • Maintains constant control of the Refiner and Dryer system.
  • Must constantly be aware of operating conditions.
  • Required to make recipe changes for every type of product and monitor resin flow.
  • Monitor temperatures, steam volume, pressures, water levels, and speed.
  • Required to monitor the hoppers and all conveyors for chip supply.
  • Monitor metal detects and track, plus respond to ensure production is not stopped.
  • Identifies process variation, determines the source, and works to eliminate it.
  • Performs root cause analysis on problems and offers assistance in solutions.
  • Communicates with other control room Operators to maintain stable and consistent production.
  • Assists in planning and executing production line shutdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Monitors fiber quality, moisture and takes immediate action to eliminate problems negatively impacting it.
  • Performs basic maintenance related tasks.
  • Directs refiner area housekeeping activities during outages.
  • Assists maintenance personnel in performing technical work.
  • Report any abnormalities to Supervisor or Lead and assist with recording information properly.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

COMPETENCIES:

  • Core competencies include strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good listening skills
  • Good data analysis and interpretation skills

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Must be able climb ladders and stairs up to heights of 50 ft.
  • Must be capable of working on elevated surfaces without fear of heights.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly on 2-way radio.
