Position Summary

The Program Coordinator of Parent & Family Engagement will:
  • Manage the logistics of the orientation and transition experience for parents and families.
  • Oversee and manage events, programs, and services for parents and families with a high focus on Family Weekend programming.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the values of inclusion, equity, and diversity.
  • Co-create, implement, and provide results of a comprehensive assessment plan in cooperation with the director.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with families of students.
  • Respond to department communication needs in a timely manner.
  • Effectively interact with University staff, faculty, and administration.
  • Maintain membership data for the Parent Communication Committee and manage administrative needs.
  • Oversee management of parent and family data.
This is a full time position and reports to the Director of Parent & Family Engagement.

Essential Functions

Programming and Outreach
  • Create programs and outreach for Family Weekend including advertising, event social media marketing, presenter organization, event logistics, program implementation, and assessment.
  • Assist families of students to identify resources available to support their students academic success, and their social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
  • In cooperation with the director, educate families on the parent/guardian (and student) transition from K-12 to higher education through a series of summer webinars, updates to the website, and on social media.
  • Marketing of major campus events to parents and families such as Discoveries Orientation, Homecoming, Family Weekend, and other events as appropriate.
  • Create monthly newsletters to keep families informed and involved with the University community, share resources, and demonstrate the value of a DU education.
  • Communicate with families proactively and reactively in a timely manner via email, phone, and on social media.
  • From May 1 through the completion of new student orientation (Discoveries), this role will share responsibility for Discoveries program planning and support the Assistant Director of Discoveries Orientation.
Administrative Duties
  • Manage email and social media communication to families in consultation with the director and other University staff.
  • Create an engaging social media content calendar, design original posts, and respond to comments on social media platforms with guidance from the director.
  • Support the Discoveries Orientation program goals and outcomes by participating in program planning and implementation.
  • Create monthly summaries of tasks, accomplishments, and future goals.
  • Gather and maintain demographic data of parents and families of incoming students.
  • Collaborate with the director to analyze assessment results.
  • Develop an informative and engaging Parent and Family Calendar.
  • Create online registration for Family Orientation and Family Weekend, manage payments and refunds, and report attendee and financial data.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Serve on University, division, area, and department committees.
  • Assist director with strategic planning, visioning, and assessment for the department.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Parent & Family Engagement to determine other duties which enhance and support the mission, vision, and goals of the department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, demonstrate discretion and excellent judgement, and delegate appropriate tasks to staff volunteers during Family Weekend.
  • This position requires sophisticated written and verbal communication skills and involves public presentations, the ability to respond to sensitive inquiries with empathy, and at times may involve complex and independent decision-making.
  • The nature of the work requires an ability to manage stressful situations and to act effectively in a crisis.
  • This position requires extensive collaboration with a variety of offices on campus.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with supporting parents and families of students in higher education.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience with strategy and problem-solving in a complex organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with goal setting and program assessment.
  • Experience working with faculty and staff in higher education.
  • Experience with budget development and oversight.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 7.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $48,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
