SUMMARY:

Responsible to maintain all plumbing systems and their related piping and fixtures and any other duties necessary to supply sanitary and safe water to, and waste from, all the buildings of the University of Richmond.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and effect repairs on varied plumbing systems including domestic water supply, site utility and fire main supply, building and site sanitary, fixtures and specialties, storm drains.
  • Install or modify systems for small renovation projects.
  • Work safely in varied conditions including crawl spaces, occupied spaces, excavations, and construction areas.
  • Ability to carry out project or maintenance work with minimal supervision.
  • Assist in special events as required to ensure successful outcome.
  • All Facilities employees are expected to exercise behavior in accordance with University policies as well as with the Facilities Mission and statement of Core Values.
  • All Facilities employees are expected to comply to safety standards and demonstrate safe work habits.
  • Subject to being on-call for emergency service after normal hours on rotating basis with other tradesmen in shop.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Working knowledge of the International Plumbing Code.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams.
  • Possess basic estimating skills to accurately assess labor and material costs for projects.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to work performed.
  • Ability to use International Plumbing Code and perform work in accordance with IPC.
  • Ability to use tools, and equipment correctly and safely.
  • Exercise behavior in accordance with University and Facilities guidelines, policies, procedures, mission and shared values.
  • Display professional manner and appearance at all times.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair problems.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally to all necessary key interfaces information pertaining to quality completion of work.
  • Physically capable of working as an electrician including work from ladders and high platforms or lifts.
  • Ability to use specialty and heavy equipment.
  • Soldering and/or welding ability.
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Technical training certificate in Plumbing
  • Journeyman's Certificate
  • 5 years' progressive experience in plumbing construction and/or maintenance.
WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm; 8 hrs./ Day. 40 hrs./ week; Required to work weekends & nights
  • All Facilities employees are designated as essential personnel and are subject to work outside the normal work schedule on an emergency basis and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the immediate supervisor.
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $18.79 to $24.90 per hour)
