Overview

Responsible for developing design concepts for targeted market segments through market research and trend analysis. This position is responsible for assorting and managing the company line plan in order to meet company's vision and goals. The Product Designer will be accountable for providing designs for stock product and Ultrafuse silhouettes.

This role is based in Manhattan, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Provides design direction and creative vision for Champion product collections.
  • Conducts trend analysis by shopping competitors, traveling to spirit and sport competitions, clinics, and market shows; obtains information on new fabrics, trims and styling trends.
  • Reviews data from market surveys, customer and Sales feedback, focus groups, and various other market research initiatives.
  • Understands and implements the latest in fabric, color, style trends and consumer insights in order to create concepts that provide aesthetic apparel and performance innovation.
  • Interacts with the Product Development team to provide initial direction for fit and development of garment designs as well as re-engineering to accommodate price points or embellishment provisions. Attends all fit sessions and is accountable for overall end look of garments.
  • Partners with Ultrafuse and Merchandising Artists to facilitate new art and processes based on market research and current trends.
  • Ensures new products meet Champion embellishment production requirements.
  • Researches sport and spirit regulations to ensure all product design features fall within the researched parameters and coordinates execution with Product Development.
  • Conducts and organizes milestone design and edit meetings with key departments in accordance with company calendar.
  • Completes a position specific training plan and engages in continuous development utilizing a developmental plan.
  • Assists in paginations to provide product and merchandising direction.
  • Participates in meetings including product huddles, pagination, ads, and emails to provide product input for presentations.
  • Analyzes catalog presentations as provided by Marketing and provides merchandising direction for new photo shots.
  • Attends photo shoots to provide direction from a product and merchandising perspective.
  • Reviews and approves photo images as it relates to the presentation of product.
  • Partners with the Sales team on special projects such as fashion shows for specific clinics and competitions.
  • Drives creativity through innovation and maintains creative concept boards.

Line Plan Development

  • Collaborates with all cross-functional departments to develop line plans.
  • Communicates evolution of product line plans to cross functional departments; organizes and conducts meetings in accordance with the company calendar in order to ensure alignment of product and style direction.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the domestic assortment plan and works with vendors as needed.
  • Collaborates with necessary team members and departments to establish targeted retail price points on all new products and provides costing feedback.
  • Collaborates on proofing all media.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelors degree in an apparel related field of study, or related business field required
  • At least 2 years of related experience in design, merchandising, development, or a manufacturing environment, especially in a garment industry or related soft goods industry preferred.
  • Keen understanding of line planning required.
  • Extreme attention to detail required and a proven ability to established and maintain schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to work on a diverse assortment of product categories.
  • Superior presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Strong computer skills, working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Illustrator)
  • Ability to gather appropriate input and make clear, well-reasoned decisions.
  • Comfortable with a team-based work structure; ability to remain flexible to change within the work environment and scope of responsibility.
  • Resourceful and well organized, works will under pressure, able to multi-task.
  • Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
