Position Overview:

Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of insurance programs and assist in the quantitative and qualitative analysis on existing and emerging insurance markets, products, and competitors. Under the general direction of the Director of Commercial Programs, the Product Development Strategist is responsible for all phases of product management from assessment through strategy execution and ongoing monitoring of implementation tactics and results. This position is involved in the timely completion of product analyses, as well as formal product proposals, presentations, and implementation of product changes.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Participate in or lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of commercial insurance programs.
  • Assist with defining product-specific innovative strategies to ensure profitable enrollment growth in our commercial products.
  • Lead a cross-functional team to develop product strategies, evaluate feasibility, and manage the process.
  • Work with a cross functional team including sales, service, actuarial, provider network and operations to evaluate new product concepts specific to product line and local market areas, and work with the Director of Commercial Programs to design, introduce, and incorporate those concepts into overall portfolio.
  • Interface with customers and coworkers to enhance existing products.
  • Work with the actuarial and sales teams to evaluate existing products for consolidation and closure.
  • Gather and analyze market data, competitor activity, competitor products and rating structure, survey information and market trends, etc.
  • Provide regular and ad hoc analysis and reports.
  • Build templates and methodologies for product management and documentation.
  • Complete templates for the binder filings and manage the accuracy of plans in various market place exchanges.
  • Coordinate with the Compliance Department to ensure new products meet regulatory requirements and PacificSource strategic plans.
  • Assist in quantifying expected program performance, and assists in the preparation of the actual product performance reports. Monitor to ensure new product objectives are being met.
  • With the Director of Commercial Programs, monitor quality of business, reasons for loss experience, and price adequacy. Make recommendations.
  • Collaborate with all functional departments to champion new products and ensure ability to administer prior to finalizing.
  • Work with Communications Department to develop customer- focused strategies for promotion of new product, service, or company.

Supporting Responsibilities:
  • Assist with other projects, vendor relationships and provide back-up to other team members of the product development department.
  • Meet department and company performance and attendance expectations.
  • Follow the PacificSource privacy policy and HIPAA laws and regulations concerning confidentiality and security of protected health information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience: At least three years' experience in healthcare insurance environment required, or a combination of equitable work experience and education. Project management experience preferred. Previous experience in conducting market research, using mainframe computer applications for data retrieval, data analysis, and professional presentation of data preferred.

Education, Certificates, Licenses: BA/BS in Business Administration or relevant field, or a combination of equitable education and work experience.

Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the health care system, health insurance, product development process, internal and external environments, PacificSource products, services and programs. Writing business documents and making presentations. Knowledge of market and competitive landscape.

Environment: Work inside in a general office setting with ergonomically configured equipment. Travel is required approximately less than 25% of the time.

Physical Requirements: Stoop and bend. Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time while performing core job functions. Repetitive motions to include typing, sorting and filing. Light lifting and carrying of files and business materials. Ability to read and comprehend both written and spoken English. Communicate clearly and effectively.
