POSITION PURPOSE:
Combine knowledge of design, engineering, and manufacturing processes to create functional products. Research and develop ideas and processes for new products. Improves upon the performance and design of existing products and coordinates production of final product.



IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.



Experience
* 5 to 6 years experience in a manufacturing or design environment
* Proficient in design engineering tools like Finite Element Analysis, Interference analysis and the ability to use these tools to make improved design decisions
* Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D & Inventor
* Ability to use reverse engineering tools like Coordinate Measurement Machine, Comparators etc.
* Expertise in the assigned product area including process variations of manufacturing processes, vendor processes, competitive trends, related material properties, testing etc.
* Basic understanding of metrology
* Six Sigma Green belt level knowledge with working knowledge of tools like process capability & Gage R & R
* Working knowledge of Design For Manufacturability (DFM) principles
* Understanding of Value Engineering Methodology & Lean manufacturing principles
Skills
* Microsoft office products and MS Project
Education
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or) Industrial Engineering; Extensive work experience will be considered in lieu of education



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Research -- Using mathematical modelling to work out whether new developments and innovations would work and be cost effective
* Design -- Turning research ideas into technical plans for prototypes using computer-aided design (CAD) software's
* Prototyping & Testing -- Creating models and samples for proposed cabinet and component design. Collecting, analyzing and documenting data from tests on prototypes
* Modifying designs and re-testing -- Working concurrently with process engineers and manufacturing to come up with a design concept that can be produced at the lowest cost
* Reporting -- Writing or presenting regular progress reports for project managers and clients
* Documentation - Creating drawings and documentation that assists in efficient and flawless product changes through the organization
* Coordination - Coordinate product changes throughout the organization from product concept phase through final production
* Launch Management - Project Management and tracking of new product designs from initial concept phase to production ramp - up. Acting as the key driver of launch success
* Value Engineering - Research and develop cost savings projects to existing products or production techniques and processes
* Product Knowledge - Subject matter expert on new trends, materials, design etc. in the assigned product area
* Supervisory Responsibilities:
* May supervise hourly and salaried employees in the assigned department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employee; addressing complaints and resolving problems.





SCOPE & EXPECTATIONS:
* Language Skills:
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and technical journals and diagrams.
* Ability to listen and communicate effectively with customers/clients and employees in an effort to respond to common inquires or complaints.
* Ability to develop presentations to be delivered to employee groups and upper management.
* Mathematical Skills:
* Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.
* Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as statistical and financial math calculations, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
* Reasoning Ability:
* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, mathematical or diagram form and develop a plan of action to follow those instructions.
* Physical Demands:
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
* Working Environment:
* Typical office environment with testing lab. The noise level is usually moderate. Work hours will not vary much from normal business hours. Occasional weekend work may be required. Occasional travel is required.
* Reports to:
* Recruitment process may consist of any combination of phone, video and in person interviews.
