POSITION PURPOSE:

Work with Director of Manufacturing to direct and lead American Woodmark’s production initiatives with the goal of establishing a world class manufacturing operation. Overall development and coordination of plant operations and production processes to optimize the use of all resources and equipment in meeting and/or exceeding established plant goals.

EDUCATION


* Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business Management/Operations or related discipline required; MBA a plus; extensive work experience may be considered in lieu of education.

EXPERIENCE


* Manufacturing Experience - Minimum of 8 years of manufacturing experience required; must have experience working in a team environment; production leadership in a strong lean environment is desired; just-in-time manufacturing experience preferred; woodworking related experience a plus.
* Supervision/Management - Minimum of 8 years of supervision experience including experience over multiple departments; 5+ years of managerial experience in an Operations role at the plant level is preferred.
* Lean Manufacturing - Must have strong Lean manufacturing experience including 5S, TPM, root cause analysis such as 5 Why, continuous improvement practices, process analysis, visual workplace, standard work, setup reduction, value stream mapping, single piece flow, error proofing, and waste reduction. Prior lean certification and experience in implementation of lean manufacturing a strong plus.
* Team Development - Must have a proven track record of cultivating and developing talent in an organizational setting.
* Change Agent - Must have a demonstrated history of successfully leading and facilitating changes that involve all levels of employees with measurable results. Candidates should be highly energized and self-motivated with experience working with teams to implement change and be adept at communicating with all levels to get everyone on board.
* Interpersonal Skills – Build strong and positive working relationships with all functional areas across the plant. Ability to effectively work with peers in development and implementation of support processes. Ability to engage and inspire production team to follow processes, raise issues and improvements in pursuit of excellence, and adapt to change.
* Management Style - Must be consistent with company CITE principles and cultural values.
* Time Management – Strong planning, organization and time management skills is required.
* Computer Skills - Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment; Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
* Communication – Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
* Other Desired Skills & Experience – Demonstrated problem solving skills; Six Sigma experience a plus.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Lean


* Lead the production team to operate as a lean manufacturing facility. Lean should not be something extra that is done, it should be the way production is managed.
* Establish and maintain a visual workplace including effective use of visual scorecards.
* Maintain 5S & housekeeping as the foundation of operational discipline and excellence.
* Improve equipment uptime, capability, and reliability through facilitation of TPM initiatives and the AWC SEE (Strategic Equipment Excellence) program.
* Develop documented standard operating procedures (standard work) related to material, equipment, and processes throughout plant operations.
* Continuously evaluate plant processes, being the driving force behind continuous improvement and cost reduction.
* Lead and/or facilitate kaizen events and actively participate on assigned teams and projects.

Development


* Establish individual goals for team members in alignment with overall organization goals and perform periodic performance reviews to determine progress.
* Actively lead the organizational development efforts for the production area and support OD throughout the location and organization.
* Participate in identifying hiring needs, employee selection and training processes.

Leadership


* Provide a safe and productive work environment, specifically including maintaining housekeeping to established standards.
* Lead facility in establishment and sustainment of all lean principles.
* Develop KPI’s and productivity standards and assure that these are met.
* Coordinate communication between assigned departments and shifts and foster healthy internal Client/Provider relationships.
* Develop and maintain healthy Client/Provider relationships with client plants.
* Plan and coordinate department’s activities to support SQDC targets and meet/exceed client expectations.
* Set and communicate departmental expectations, motivate team members, and identify opportunities for improvement.
* Provide team leadership consistent with company mission, CITE principles, values and vision.
* Ensure policies and processes are followed and provide guidance and discipline.
* Effectively utilize all resources to their maximum potential performance to achieve SQDC goals.
* Support and represent company as a union-free environment.
* Role model CITE and Working in Teams principles.
* Perform other tasks as directed by manager.
* Supervisory Responsibilities:


* Will supervise hourly and salaried employees in the assigned department and/or departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports. Carries our supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

* Communication Skills:


* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and technical journals and financial reports. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with customers/clients in an effort to respond to common inquiry or complaints from customers/clients. Ability to develop presentations to be delivered to production team or plant level team.




* Reasoning Ability:


* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
* Physical Demands:


* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds.
* Working Environment:


* Typical indoor manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate to high and hearing protection is required on the production floor. Safety glasses are required on the production floor. Some out-of-town travel is required. Occasional weekend work required.

* Travel Requirements:


* Some out-of-town travel is required up to 10%
