Job Overview

The university-wide Collaborative on Global Children's Issues launched in September 2021 to foster cross-disciplinary research and dialogue on critical and emerging challenges affecting children around the world, with a particular focus on children in adversity and pathways to resilience. The Collaborative is:

  • committed to creating opportunities that are child-centered;
  • grounded in the lived experiences of children, their families, and communities;
  • responsive to current and emerging needs and useful to actors working in a variety of contexts and capacities to meet them;
  • evidence-informed and solutions-oriented; and
  • building effective bridges between stakeholders involved in practice, policy, and research.

The Georgetown University Collaborative on Global Children's Issues (the “Collaborative”) has received a grant to plan and design a Breakthrough Series Collaborative (“BSC”) to support and learn from stakeholders who are leading innovative efforts to promote early childhood development and protection for young children displaced and on the move in northern Central America. The Collaborative is seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) Program Manager to lead the one-year project's planning and design process.

Work Interactions

The Collaborative is situated within the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement, which supports many of the university's global initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Collaborative, the Program Manager will lead the planning and design process in coordination with support staff within the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement. S/he will interact with partner organizations, practitioners, and policymakers in the performance of their responsibilities.

Requirements and Qualifications

Requirements:

  • M.A. in a relevant field, including early childhood development, social work, child welfare.
  • Five to ten years of experience in program design, management, and implementation.
  • Cultural and linguistic fluency in English and Spanish and sensitivity towards local and migrant populations in the northern Central American context.
  • Technical expertise in early childhood development and protection.
  • Familiarity working with migrant populations and in displacement contexts.
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills and an ability to work collaboratively with an extensive network of practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders in northern Central America.
  • Ability to travel for at least one week during the term.


Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience working in a university context or with institutions of higher learning.


Sponsored Project Management

As the designated Department Financial Manager for Sponsored Projects, the employee is responsible for financial management of the sponsored project to ensure compliance with sponsor's requirements and University's policies and procedures. Within 30 days after the close of the month (generally the 8th business day after the end of the month), the duties to be performed by the employee include, but not limited to:

  • Review and reconcile expenses on the Center Status Reports to ensure that the expenses are a) allowable by the sponsor for the project, b) allocable to the project, c) reasonable and necessary, d) supported by required documents, and e) within the budgeted amounts;
  • Review salary distributions to ensure that they reasonably reflect employees' level of effort on project. Review associated fringe benefits for accuracy;
  • Review the commitments of key personnel, to ensure the costs reasonably reflect the level of effort committed to the sponsors as part of proposal and notify OSP/OSR of significant variances;
  • Review the calculation of indirect cost recovery to ensure accuracy;
  • Process all corrections and adjustments within 90 days of when the charge initially posts to the financial system (posted date for non-payroll and pay period end date for payroll transactions) and ensure corrections and adjustments are reviewed and approved according to the signature authority policy and supported by appropriate documents;
  • Complete the Financial Status Report (FSR) worksheets timely and accurately; and
  • Ensure that payments to subrecipients are reviewed and processed in a timely manner.
