About the Department

The Dean of Students Office within the Division of the Humanities provides clear and critical support structures to students and advances the academic mission through an inclusive and student-centered approach. In collaboration with the departments and academic programs within the Division of the Humanities as well as the broader University community, the office supports students' education and development both inside and outside the classroom.

Job Summary

The Recruitment and Engagement Specialist leads in the creation and development of marketing strategies and programs to improve awareness of Humanities academic programs and departments, divisional initiatives, and alumni and career opportunities for prospective students. This position will support the creation of newsletters, email campaigns, website updates, social media, and digital content to recruit prospective students. They will counsel Humanities Department staff in developing and executing their individual digital promotion strategies. The Recruitment and Engagement Specialist will also partner with the Director of Recruitment to improve the prospective student experience. These efforts will work in collaboration with and in support of the division's integrated recruitment strategy, requiring a strong ability to work well both individually and in teams to positively represent the Division of Humanities. This position reports to the Director of Recruitment within the Dean of Students Office.

This position is hybrid: 2-3 days on site and 2-3 days working remote, with additional flexibility based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning and execution of recruitment outreach to prospective students, highlighting Humanities' distinctive academic programs.
  • Supports recruitment programming, including hosting information sessions and meeting with prospective students to discuss the student experience.
  • Maintains a central events calendar of campus activities pertinent to current and prospective students.
  • Understands and communicates the mission, values, and goals of the core administrative areas of Humanities student engagement and support.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Recruitment to develop strategic, mission-aligned student communication and marketing strategies that span the student life cycle.
  • Performs interviews with students, alumni, faculty, and administrators to support marketing initiatives.
  • Develops integrated messaging and storytelling for student recruitment initiatives.
  • Participates in the design and selection of promotional materials and items.
  • Supervises social media/web pages highlighting the student experience for recruitment purposes.
  • Maximizes content exposure with attention to and in collaboration with the central social media efforts.
  • Analyzes metrics for social media, website, and email newsletter campaigns to measure success and determine strategic campaign adjustments.
  • Manages photography and videography (shooting, editing, and design) required for digital content creation for the benefit of the prospective student experience.
  • Maintains relationships with all individuals involved in the recruitment process, including routinely counseling students and parents regarding the admission process.
  • Participates in special projects such as developing marketing materials, monitoring budgets and recruiting underrepresented groups.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:
  • Master's degree in marketing, communications, higher education, humanities, or related field.

Experience:
  • Admissions and recruitment/higher education work.
  • Establishing contacts and cultivating new media relationships.
  • Writing and editing for media, digital content, stakeholder input, and content calendars.
  • Working with content creators to adapt stories.
  • Higher education, non-profit.
  • Creative direction and design principles to provide direction for recruitment purposes.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Proficient in and functional knowledge of MS Office.
  • Proficient in Canva, Constant Contact, Buffer, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of and experience with SLATE CRM technology.
