The Bonini lab specializes in using the genetically tractable model organism, Drosophila, as a tool to understand the molecular basis of disease and disorder of the brain, with a particular focus on degenerative processes including ALS/FTD, TBI and aging. We implement cutting-edge genetic, molecular and cellular approaches to develop and characterize models of these processes to study their molecular basis, with an emphasis on potential translatability to clinical improvement. The lab is hiring a new new Research Specialist who will work with PI, postdoctoral scientists, and graduate students in the laboratory to conduct research for specific research projects of focus.Research will involve:

  • setting up and performing genetic crosses with Drosophila

  • performing genetic screens,

  • molecular and biological analysis of material, including taking images and histological analysis of material,

  • cloning and sequencing approaches, RNA preparations.

Research may also involve cultured cells, to extend the work from in vivo to cells in culture. The Research Specialist will aid in general maintenance of laboratory as well by overseeing databases for reagents, train new laboratory members in basic experimental approaches, and will help oversee and maintain laboratory equipment.

**This position is dependent on continued grant funding.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in biology, or related field, required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience working with Drosophila in a lab or research setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
