About the Opportunity

The Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Research Specialist to work with the Applied Research program on specific research projects focused on skill acquisition, training, and human performance. This position will assist the director of Human Performance on research and development projects specifically focused on incorporating specialized skills in marksmanship and training in an applied research domain.

What you’ll do:

  • Work independently and/or with a research team to carry out applied research projects focused on understanding and improving human performance.
  • Design and implementation of research projects as well as data analysis and reporting/publishing of the projects.
  • Utilize tools such as cognitive batteries, and subjective questionnaires to measures, assess, and improve human effectiveness.


  • BA/BS in a science-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in specialized area (certifications required).
  • Two (2) years experiences:
    • Qualified on multiple weapons (marksmanship)
    • Prior Military service is strongly recommended.
    • Working knowledge of marksmanship qualification testing is required.
    • Live-fire range experience (i.e. safety officer)
    • Development and evaluation of small unit tactical programs
  • Expert understanding of marksmanship weapon systems
  • Expert understanding of live-fire range usage and safety regulations.
  • Expert understanding or demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, and improve tactical training programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to create, annotate and maintain detailed records
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a computer utilizing various software packages, including creating spreadsheets, charts, graphs, etc.

  • Current certification or ability to obtain CITI certifications
  • Highly Desired: Qualified Military Sniper
  • Special Operations Training Group certification
