Shift: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
Supervision Received: The RIDE Center Coordinator reports directly to The Executive Director for the Center for Research, Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurial (RIDE) Center.
Supervision Exercised: Student interns and work study students may be available to help with tasks related to connecting and supporting students through the Research, Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurial (RIDE) Center on and off campus.
Salary: $57,000.00 to $60,000.00 (Salary commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties: The RIDE Center coordinator will support the Executive Director in managing the equipment, space, and programming. The space includes a design studio and MakerSpace with 3D printers, laser cutter, woodworking, sewing, computer programing, vacuum formers, and circuitry tools. They will help to coordinate and contribute to a positive user experience, managing classroom, student, and community visits and activities, helping with scheduling events, communication, student support, preparation of reports/assessments, administrative/office tasks, and other RIDE center needs. Additionally, they will contribute to the expansion and support maintenance of websites and social media communication, assist the Executive Director with grant preparations and communication with external stakeholders and community members. They will assist with coordination of student interns, work study, and graduate assistants, and community engagements associated with RIDE centers. They will assist the Executive Director with RIDE expositions, workshops, speaker series, and other events, as well as training students, faculty, staff, and community on equipment within the center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
Essential:

Organizing/Planning
  • Maintaining the function of equipment within RIDE's Design and Makerspace and training users on the various equipment
  • Assisting the Executive Director with organizing RIDE speaker series, expositions, competitions, and other workshops and speaking events
  • Assisting with summer camps and external groups utilizing RIDE
  • Maintaining and contributing to university webpages related to RIDE Center
  • Will share in the responsibility of RIDE'S social media presence, in the form of websites, blogs, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
  • Help in data collection in preparation of grant writing and submissions.
  • Coordinating ongoing RIDE Projects, such as: Workshops, speaker series, community events, summer camps, K-12 events, pitch and project competitions, alum-associated RIDE programs, and other programs as needed
  • Office administrative duties for RIDE, such as communication, coordinating and scheduling of events, coordinating and ordering equipment and office supplies; office operations and equipment needs
  • Providing support for overseeing interns and work study students
  • Support the Executive Director in the development and creation of marketing content, newsletters, blogs, and other university communication
  • Track, organize and prepare documents for reporting budget needs and any other RIDE Center needs
  • Oversight of physical space, equipment, and users in RIDE Centers.
  • Assistance with community and external stake holder communications and coordination of campus visits, including K-12 visits, summer camps, and other external groups
  • Coordinate the use of Ride Center for faculty, staff, student, and external stakeholder/community needs
  • Assist the Executive Director in organizing and facilitating events that support student-community engagement
  • Attending and representing at recruitment events that support current, alum and prospective WSU students, such as: Lifetime Owls; The Westfield Promise Program; Urban Education; Summer Bridge; school field trips



Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; Disciplinary specialization is open.
  • Experience with running and maintenance of MakerSpace equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter, Arduino and computer programming, soldering, and other MakerSpace equipment.
  • Experience with Website Design, Excel, MS Word, and CANVA
  • Prior experience in event planning and workshop design
  • Experience in active social media strategies
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with professional, non-professional, and student staff.
  • Knowledge of principles and practice of office management
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and exercise sound judgement
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and managing of general reports
  • Ability to be attentive and perform work at a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly, and to develop ideas in a logical sequence

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in coordinating / planning events that support academic programming at the university level
  • Experience working with undergraduate students at an institution of higher education
  • Experience supporting a research or innovation center in higher-ed environment

Salary:

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies. State job specifications may be found on the Department of Higher Education's webpage.
