Carlisle Weatherproofing Technologies (CWT) is a leading supplier of building envelope solutions that effectively drive energy efficiency and sustainability in commercial and residential applications. We are looking for a Scientist II to work in and support our Wylie, TX facility.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a scientist to join our dynamic research and development team. This role is responsible for leading the execution of laboratory work for new and reformulation efforts across a variety of product lines including coatings, adhesives, sealant, water/weather proofing, and asphalt systems. In addition, the scientist is to assist with manufacturing of new and existing products to solve factory and field problems and to monitor technical advances, trends, and environmental issues that may influence future product development direction. The incumbent plans his/her own work to meet objectives established by R&D Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Conduct research in the areas of formulation modifications and new product development.
* Develop new applications or customize existing applications to meet specific scientific project/market needs.
* Provide technical assistance to technical service, sales, marketing, and production. This includes field support to representatives, distributors, any field sales, applicators, architects, building owners and other customers.
* Support production trials.
* Select and evaluate alternate sources of raw materials.
* Write purchasing specifications, review Safety Data Sheets, Technical Data Bulletins, and Product labels.
* Summarize and communicate data results to the broader technology team and recommend new systems and processes to improve operations.
* Document all work in a clear and logical manner using standard scientific reports.
* Provide input into quality control testing protocols as necessary.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Familiar with ASTM and AASHTO standard methods.
* The individual will have experience of executing technology projects from inception through completion.
* Ability to take product concepts from the laboratory to the plant and ultimately to commercialization.
* Comfortable working and communicating with operations to facilitate scale-up.
* As needed, travelling to manufacturing sites to support scale-up, production process and quality control.
* Possess an understanding of the chemistry, physical properties, processing and storage of finished product formulations and their potential utilization in other applications, as well as aging mechanisms.
* Experience in using basic analytical instruments including viscometers, thermal analyzers, FTIR, Instron, Iatroscan, etc. are desirable.

Education and Experience:

* BS/MS Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer chemistry, Material Science, or equivalent required.
* The individual will have 3-5 years laboratory work experience formulating coatings, adhesives, sealants and/or asphalt blends and asphalt emulsions
